Raising the Bar ... again

Just when you think The Walking Dead couldn’t be any better, along came the February premiere, I was Blown Away! [Somewhat of a spoiler Alert]

The opening scene started out as another, “You’ve got to be kidding me.” The end of the scene was totally unexpected and fantastic. How do the writers and directors think up this stuff? Fortunately, I recorded the episode, because I had to rewind twice to make certain I hadn’t missed anything.

Then, just as I am catching my breath, we switch to the town overrun with the dead. It just proves once again that you should never bring children to an apocalyptic event. All of the fans have come to the realization that someone is going to die (killing off our darlings). Yet, I never expected that many to be killed off in one scene. When I watched the carnage this scene had, it still caught me by surprise.

And, we have come to expect, and hope, that one or two of our favorites will be saved at the last moment. Once again, this episode didn’t disappoint us.

It is one thing to write these scenes. It is another to bring them to life realistically enough to cause shock and awe to the viewers. In my opinion, this episode ranks near the top. And, because of that, I have to ask, “Where do they go from here?”
