Memories flood my mind

I remember standing in our yard at night watching the sky for Sputnik or Explorer to pass over. It was amazing to see these reflective
star-like objects slip slowly across the sky. I was hooked on the space program.

  • Who can remember where they were when President Kennedy was assassinated?
  • How about when Apollo 11’s Eagle landed in the Sea of Tranquility? And, when Armstrong’s fir
st took a step on the moon? The thrill of the moment can never be recreated.
  • How about when the entire nation waited for news that the Apollo 13 crew made it home safe?
  • Of course, just thinking of the morning of September 11, 2001 still causes me to pause for a moment.Who would have ever believed ...

All these thoughts and so many more bring me to today’s topic.

I’m watching the FX mini-series “The People vs. O.J. Simpson.” It is a true crime anthology based upon Jeffrey Toobin’s book, “The

Run of His Life.” As I watched the first episode, I was chiding myself for even turning it on. I felt this was going to be another over-sensationalized effort to rekindle a news event that captured the attention of, and polarized, the public.

And, yes, it is that, as well as so much more. I am hooked.

The studio, writers, directors and actors have pulled this event off. The writers and directors have balanced the right and wrong, up and down moments of the events leading up to and during the trial. The cast does a great job of bringing their characters to life, both personally and professionally.

  • Cuba Gooding, Jr. as O. J. Simpson
  • Nathan Lane as F. Lee Bailey
  • David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian
  • John Travolta as Robert Shapiro
  • Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran
  • Kenneth Choi as Judge Lance Ito
  • Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark
  • Sterling K. Brown as Christopher Darden
  • Christian Clemenson as William Hodgman
  • Bruce Greenwood as D.A. Gil Garcetti

If you have the opportunity, give the series a chance. Who knows, you might enjoy reliving this moment in history.
