I hate editing!

I love to write and I hate to edit. Writing is fun. You feel free to explore and live through the eyes of characters. The muse visits and you just let her lead you down a path.

Editing takes forever. It requires reading and rereading. You have to ask others to tear your story apart and challenge everything about it. You realize how terrible your grammar is. Holes in your story are exposed. And on and on … Once you’ve finished the second edit, then you need beta-readers to read the book in its entirety to make certain is makes sense, flows well, doesn’t have any glaring errors, etc. That results in at least one more edit.

I usually try to write a thousand words a day at least five days a week. During the edit process, the same thousand words can take several days to review and rewrite. Since this will be my fourth published work, I know why it would be great to give it to a professional editor and forget about it until it is returned with all the markups.

I love this story. It is my favorite and was the most fun to write. I can’t wait to publish it, but I know I have to be patient and do it right.
