Chineham tollhouse, 1996

This is the one that started my interest in tollhouses. I lived here in the late '90s, the picture above was taken in 1996.

The house is on the A33 as it leaves Basingstoke heading north. It used to be at the southern end of the Reading to Basingstoke turnpike. The original tollhouse is the octagonal structure on the right of the picture; in the '80s the second octagon was added, more than doubling the size of the house.
