Baptist Missionary Association

The BMA of Texas is one of several regional, state and national "Baptist Missionary Associations." It is composed of over four hundred fifty Baptist churches, most of which are also organized into associations on county or district levels. Each association functions as an entity separate from the others.

These churches associate on the principle that all local churches are completely self-governing and, in associational capacity, have equal voice and vote regardless of size or financial contributions. Each church may be represented by an equal number of messengers (usually three) at annual meetings.

The various associational departments exist as servant organizations to help the churches carry out the Great Commission. As the name implies, mission work —now often called "church planting" — is at the core of BMA existence, but the associated churches also fund benevolent, Christian education, and other valued ministries.
