Our family Tricia Parrish, Philip Kaake and Emmett Kaake, were inspired by Lama's mission and wanted to help. We not only felt a call to service but more importantly drawn to Dolker, and we decided to adopt her. As her sponsors we brought her to the United States in July of 2008. She embraced her new life with unbridled enthusiasm. It's been a joy witnessing many first time experiences for her, bike riding, learning to swim, trick -or-treating, Thanksgiving and Christmas. One touching celebration was her first birthday party which she graciously and lovingly enjoyed. She has many friends at school who adore her and miss her.
Dolker had been in our community for 6 months when the entire family traveled to Nepal to finalize the adoption. Unfortunately, Nepal has a new government and is in the process of writing new adoption laws. The adoption could not be completed and Dolker had to be left in Nepal. She has touched the hearts of everyone she has met with her vibrant smile and generous spirit. She bonded with us and our lives are not the same without her.
We have been deeply moved by the outpouring of support to help bring her home. Our community in Alameda, California has generously offered to help us fund-raise; already the continuing and escalating costs have been staggering for us.
Our personal journey has become a journey of community, unity and global connection.
In countless ways, Dolker has touched our hearts, and indeed the hearts of everyone she has met.
