Westover has 3 Town Councillors. These include the former Town Mayor Cllr Pat Parker and District Councillors Cllr Brian Smedley(Westover) and Cllr Steve Austen (Hamp).

Bridgwater Town Council is controlled by the Labour Party with 14 councillors to 2 Tory councillors.

Steve Austen

Steve Austen moved to Somerset 25 years ago and has lived on Hamp for the past 14 with his wife Stella. Both have previously worked for Sedgemoor District Council for many years and have witnessed the waste and political indecision first hand.

As a Housing officer Steve is well known in the ward particularly in West street which was his first patch.

Steve, who has been involved in the local community for many years and has helped many people in this time, knows that the local Council should be doing more for Bridgwater. He was elected as a Sedgemoor District Councillor for the Hamp Ward in May 2011 and has recently become the Shadow Portfolio holder for Business Development.
