SHOPPERS’ SURVEY

THIS SURVEY HAS NOW CLOSED AND THE RESULTS INCLUDED BELOW

"One of Bridgwater Forward's main concerns in their battle with Sedgemoor has been the impact a Tesco Extra store would have on existing town centre shops. It is estimated that a store of the size proposed would need 100,000 shopping baskets or trolleys a week to be viable. We don't know where all that shopping will come from, unless from existing shops and supermarkets! Imagine the horror when Sedgemoor said they will not be carrying out an independent Retail Impact Assessment, but that Tesco will do their own: in other words, Herod will be in charge of the nursery!

That's why they decided to carry out a simple Impact Assessment of their own. This survey is aimed at shoppers in Bridgwater, and   the data we collected can help to analyse current shopping habits and the likely impact of a Tesco Extra on the town centre. However,  this should really be a job that Sedgemoor District Council should be doing, in the interests of the town and people of Bridgwater."
