Westover Bomb Scare -All Clear Sounded.....

You couldn't really make it up of course. Yesterday afternoon at about 1pm someone turned up at Bridgwater Police station with an un-exploded World War 2 bomb he'd found on Kilve beach and obviously  popped it in the boot of his car and drove it into the centre of town.

Acting promptly as usual Sedgemoor District Council immediately threw a security cordon around Chief Executive Kerry Rickards (far right)  and evacuated the council building opening up a rest centre in the town hall. Sadly, they didn't mention it to the neighbours....

Speaking from a bunker underneath the 'rest centre' in a fetching tin hat and flash mask, Mr Rickards said "You have to err on the side of caution."

An  Explosive Ordnance Disposal team has now collected the device to be disposed of safely. Presumably fly tipped somewhere near Saltlands.

The all-clear was given by the Police around 1545 hrs and the rest centre closed (although two residents did eventually check in - presumably hoping there would be tea and cakes and the chance to meet missing local celebrity Ian Liddel-Grainger, a regular at these occaisions).
