1885 Victorian Breakfast and Luncheon Menu Suggestions Lithograph To Frame
Madame, Your Breakfast Is Served. This Morning's Menu includes hot Tea or Coffee, a nice slice of Brawn (better known as head cheese; a cold cut originating in Europe which is not a cheese but a meat jelly made with flesh from the head of a calf or pig (sometimes a sheep or cow) suspended in a pickled aspic,) some Mustard Cress and Radishes, Bread and Butter, Oysters and Bacon, Kidneys, Rolls and Butter and Poached Eggs. For Today's Luncheon In The East Garden; It's Cold Chicken, Boiled Potatoes, Scalloped Veal, Salad, Curried Eggs, Bread and Butter, Veal Cutlets and Cold Ham. Oh... and Chef certainly hopes you saved room for desert; he's made a nice Lemon Custard AND a Jam Tart just for you. (Pssssst... I really do think someone in the kitchen is trying to kill you, Sweetie.) *Gulp* Now think about choking down all that stuff while you're all laced up nice and tight in a corset. This gorgeous original Victorian lithograph from 1885 (long before the American Medical Association was around to condemn such heart-stopping menu plans) is from my very own collection of beautiful and weird Victorian prints and illustrations from the late 1800s. 'Victorian Breakfast and Luncheon Menu Suggestions' measures 8." x 10.25." It's in smooth condition; aged to a lovely soft and even light tanning with the usual spots one finds on paper that's 126 years old. It's printed on heavy paper and is blank on the reverse side,
