  • 10-27-2007: A lot of things have changed in the past month or so.  College life and an actual programming classes have shifted the way that I program, once again.  You see, this is the first time that I am being taught how to program and what it means to program.  I feel that I should inform all of you, since you deserve it, that my programming priorities have shifted.  I am not saying that I will stop on watcher, but if I ever should continue on watcher, then it will be in a different engine, in a different way.  Besides, good news is, Will Wright's Spore comes out in less than half a year.

Old NEWS

  • 09-13-2007: The demo link has been fixed, but i am having technical problems with the help file.  it wouldn't upload correctly.  I will most likely have this fixed by the end of the week, sorry to all.
  • 09-09-2007: New creature editor release is out, version 7.0909.  It is a day late, and like always it was caused by deep bugs within the system; specifically the leg and the eye systems.  the leg system has been fixed, and i am still working on the eyes.  As a result, some new parts had to be dropped and there is only one new part for this release.  there are a few deletion bugs that come with the new automated mirroring system, but i am aware of them and will be working on them.
  • 08-20-2007: Watcher is once again an active project and the newest release for the creature editor is out and can be found in the demo section.  Note that I will no longer be using the updates anymore.  Each new release will contain the demo and the update for a fresh install.  The releases will be marked with a date-defined version number too.  Also, my primary server is down so I was forced to post the new release on this server.  Last time I did that, people reported corruption due to downloads.  If you download the creature editor release and the installation fails, it is a product of these google servers and you can report the failed installation on the watcher forums.  All bugs can be reported on the forums.  Oh, and I have added a few new screenshots too.
  • 06-25-2007: As you may notice, I changed the look and integrated all watcher under "cykom".  "cykom" is the name and the main website that all of my projects will now be under.  It just helps to keep everything connected and orderly.
  • 05-01-2007: I am Declaring Watcher dead now.  I am sorry everyone.  It was good while it lasted, but every new thing in this game just piles on making the next thing harder.  I am only one man, and I have limited time, focus, and programming power...  To those who stuck by me and where great friends and helpers; thank you.  I will leave the site and forum running just in case I ever have a breakthrough or something and release another update/demo.  Thanks again.
  • 04-09-2007: Update 8 is out.  it has three more parts in there.  one of the feet was acting up, so I had to get rid of it, sadly...
  • 03-27-2007: Sorry for the delay.  Update 7 is finally out.  The new code in it will allow for some very exciting updates to come.  I plan on releasing updates more frequently now!  Oh, and a note on the install process for the creature editor.  Delete what you have now, download both the beta and the update.  install the beta FIRST, then install the update and it will work great.
  • 03-26-2007: Got a real domain name now (watchergame.com).  The editor update will be up by tuesday.  I know it has taken a while, about a month, such time has been used to make the editor much better.
  • 03-01-2007: Sorry for the late update, but it is here.  Update 06 is now up in the demo section.  I may have a solution for the whole scaling thing, but I was unable to to get it in for this release.  It may be in the next one, but no promises.  Oh, and I put new screenshots in the screenshot section.
  • 02-20-2007: Update 05 is out.  I have changed the updating system to one update that has all the previous updates along with it.  This update adds three slider bars used to pick the color of the creature.  The color is not what it will be.  Parts that should be dark, like nails or what have you, will not change in later releases.   I will be adding a texture picker, two textures and a bump map will be allowed, but that is for future releases.
  • 02-13-2007: Update 04 of the creature editor is out now.  Sorry, only another mouth was added.  I have been adding in a couple features behind and on screen.
  • 02-05-2007: Update 03 to the creature editor is out now.  I have been fixing other bugs and adding in a menu feature, so i was only able to add two new feet parts in.
  • 01-29-2007: New creature editor update is out, this is the second one.  It has the menu now, and it may not seem like much, but from a developing standpoint it is.  This system will let me add parts without messing with code, thus letting me add parts in minutes.  You can expect a bigger selection of parts in the next update, as a result.
  • 01-22-2007: First creature editor update is out.  If you do not have an ATI card or have not experienced any skin artifacts, then I recommend not updating!
  • 01-18-2007: The beta creature editor is out now.  There may be bugs that I missed, as I haven't had long to test it.  This is a preview of what the full thing may feel like.  There are three parts, but I am hoping to get more later on.  Since this Beta is pretty much the whole foundation of the Editor I will be releasing updates for it every monday or so.  Each update will expand on the editor, take care of bugs, and add more parts in.
  • 01-01-2007: Happy new year!!!  Hope this year I will have better luck with that darn creature editor.
  • 12-25-2006: As most of you already know, there was an accedent with the limb system in this upcoming creature editor release.  This is causing the editor to be pushed back, but because I feel bad, I decided to release a old debug version with skin and stuff.  So, Yea, there is a small demo in the demo section...  BE SURE TO READ THE CONTROL FILE before playing!
  • 12-11-2006: New Forum is now up and running!  Sorry for the mess, and thanks for being so patient.
  • 12-10-2006: This is NOT watcher or spore related in any way, but I thought with the winter here, we should have some fun outside of spore and watcher.  Therefore, I made a very easy to understand tutorial on how to winterize your windows desktop right here.
  • 11-28-2006: Well, with the cell stage updates and thanksgiving done, work on the creature editor has started back up and is running smoothly.  The creature editor's new release date is set sometime before christmas, so it should be a nice present.
  • 11-18-2006: Cell stage re-release is out now.  It has the new parts that we all talked about.  The addition of a sucker to the parts list allows for a new type of strategy on the player's behalf.
  • 11-15-2006: Bug Fix DEMO of the cell stage is out.  Just thought you guys would like a better version of the cell stage to keep you busy while I add the extra parts in and release that this weekend.
  • 11-14-2006: Switched focus to updating the cell stage a little.  The main menu has been updated to rotate in a better way.  Sound has been added to the cell stage and cell editor.  Fixed a couple glitches with part removal within the cell editor.  Will continue work on parts too.  Creature editor is still under works.  Once the skin is finally applied (worst part, I might add) I will be able to finish her up and distribute.  Hardest thing before distributing the creature editor will be making the save and load system, because it must work with the rest of the future parts of the game.  Anyway, an updated cell stage will be out this weekend and the creature editor is still being pushed back, sorry.
  • 09-28-2006: The next demo will have an updated cell stage and the creature editor.  I need new menu music, so I am giving you guys the chance to send me LEGAL music that you might want to see in the menu.  If you wish to request music, send me an e-mail (bottom of website) and if your song is picked, then your name will be added to the credits...  Also, when the creature editor is released.  I will have a save-creature feature and I will need to build a library of creatures for the next demo after this upcoming one, so I will be receiving creatures as well, but for now, just send music if you have it.
  • 09-19-2006: I think the creature editor is a product of HELL!  Yea, you heard me...  I have so much figured out, but i just cannot get my head around the adding-spine part.  I am thinking a compressed model that is just stretched, but that would mean that i have to create a system that acts like a compressor for the bone-to-user interface!!!  I am sure i will get passed it, but i just needed to let off some steam...
  • 08-29-2006: I have been brainstroming on ways to make the 3d creature editor more plausable, and I have actually found a way.  Therefore, I will be starting work back up.
  • 08-08-2006: Due to complications with prgramming the creature editor I am taking Watcher off of public domain and will continue work in private.  I will re-release it if I manage to overcome this problem...
  • 06-29-2006: I know this isn't much, but I have added 3 new screenshots showing some work i have been doing on the leg, leg animation, and foot attachment code.
  • 06-28-2006: Well I have recovered all I can, and rebuilt everything else.  I would say that I recovered about 75% of all my lost data, which isn't too bad for reformatting and installing windows over it...  anyway, I officially have all my software and projects back up and running which means I can start actually working on the game.
  • 06-22-2006: Had a close call...  I almost lost all my programming data while trying to fix a corrupted windows system file.  I am currently recovering the lost data via a program called "Quick Recovery" which can be found at www.unistal.com.
  • 06-07-2006: Well it looks like i messed up.  I will be in Germany for 10 days starting tomorrow, which means i will not make the promised demo release date.  However, I am going to release what i have now.  So, THERE IS A NEW DEMO UP!
  • 05-29-2006: NEW SCREENSHOTS!!!  there are 3 new screenshots showing off some new features.  i have added 7, yes 7, new attachments for our little cell.  the mouse also, while hovering over an attachment, will display more info about that attachment.
  • 05-27-2006: I have been working on the game, and it came to my attention that I am having trouble keeping everything in order...  So, i found a flowchart maker and made a nice simple flowchart which you can see here.
  • 05-20-2006: New watcher demo is scheduled for June 14th (6-14).
