Old Growth in a New World

Over the last trip to Rhode Island, I read Old Growth in a New World:  A PNW icon reexamined.  I had prepared a nice little book review, hand-written out and ready for posting (I like writing by hand)... but alas, my notebook was left in the hotel room.  So, no page by page highlights on this one.  But, I whole heartedly recommend it.  It does an excellent job of looking at an icon (icon in every sense of the word) from the viewpoints of the players involved.  I remember the timber wars, the Earth First and Earth First, we'll log the other planets later stickers, and all that.  This breaks it down quite well, and presents the various viewpoints in such a way that you feel informed post-reading, rather than vindicated or attacked.  It's quite good.  There are a couple essays which are plain silly, vaugue, or nonesensical, but on the whole it's a great non-techincal read, and fascinating.
