Memorial Golf Tournament

The 2018 - 11th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for August 10, 2018, at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Maryland.
Please come join us for a fun, enjoyable, worthy, good cause day.  Spread the word -- the more the merrier!  See FORMS below.

The “Brian Anthony Wilson Memorial Scholarship Fund” was created in honor of my son, Brian.  Brian was killed on 6/8/08 in a car accident caused by a second offense drunk driver.  He had just graduated from Havre de Grace High School a week before and was looking forward to attending Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania in the Fall.  His major was going to be medical technology.  Brian was very active in school, sports, music, extra curricular activities and in his community.  He cared for many and many care for him.  Brian’s loss of life has taken a great toll on many individuals (young, old, near and far away).  We want to keep his memories alive with the help of this scholarship fund; and Brian would want to help others with the gift of an opportunity to attend college.

In light of this, we are asking for your helpful donation and sponsorship of the “Brian Wilson Memorial Golf Tournament” to be held at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Maryland on August 11, 2017. Please read the attached flyers.  If you would be so kind as to sponsor, then fill in the Sponsorship Form and mail the form and check as noted.  Also, if anyone is interested in registering to play, please read the registration flyer and contact either me or Chris Crowe as noted to register (see attachments for contact information).  The more the merrier!

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

                                                    Sincerely,
                                                    Denise L. Wilson
Trustee of the Brian Anthony Wilson Memorial Scholarship Fund

The 2017 - 10th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held on August 11, 2017, at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Maryland.   Wow, can you believe -- 10th golf tournament!!  We tried to make this a special year by giving extra gifts to each golfer and extra prizes to win and door prizes.  We also had special trophies for the 1st place winners; and presented a special glass plague to Furnace Bay Golf Course for all of their support and sponsoring our golf tournament all of these years.  The tournament went well and everyone had a great time.  The sad part this year was the passing of my father (Clarence "Buster" Cunha) in May.  It was strange to not have him there in person; he would never miss being there and supporting Brian's scholarship fund.  Thank you to everyone for another great event - golfers, sponsors, volunteers, family, friends, and golf course staff.  Thank you for your contributions, donations, volunteering and supporting.   See you all next year.  Spread the word and sign up early next year.

The 2016 - 9th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held on August 12, 2016, at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Maryland.   Well, I may have broken my streak of good weather -- it was very hot; but at least it wasn't raining.  There was a breeze which kept it bearable though.  The golfer turnout this year was awesome; best since the first year of the event.  We were almost at maximum.  The golf course needed to rent extra golf carts and we almost had to cutoff registration.  What a great issue to have!  And, of course, lots of volunteers for which I couldn't do it without them.  The event was spectacular.  Thank you to everyone - golfers, sponsors, volunteers, family, friends, and golf course staff.  Thank you for your contributions, donations, volunteering and supporting.   See you all next year.  Spread the word and sign up early next year.

The 2015 - 8th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held on August 14, 2015, at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Maryland.   Again the weather was great (I mean really great).  I always get the comments, "How do you pick such good weather days each year?  Etc."  I can't take the credit; someone above (hmm??) has been helping.  We had a great turnout with lots of golfers and volunteers; all wonderful family and friends having a great time.  Each year, the organizing, setup and operation of this event goes smoother and smoother.  We have wonderful volunteers who know the routine so well, it's a breeze; and new volunteers who step in so easily.  Thank you to everyone who attended the golf tournament this year (including the golfers, sponsors, volunteers, family, friends, and golf course staff).  Thank you for your contributions, donations, volunteering and supporting.   See you all next year.  Spread the word and bring more golfers.

The 2014 - 7th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held on August 15, 2014, at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Maryland.   Thank you again to everyone who attended the golf tournament this year.  Even though our total number of golfers was lower this time, we had a great tournament with lots of fun and comradery.  As usual, there was an abundance of food and prizes.  Our volunteers are the best ever; couldn't do it without them.  Thank you to all who attended, contributed, donated, volunteered and supported.   We continue to be able to give approximately $10,000 total in scholarships each year.  I do hope we will be able to continue this trend.  See you all next year.
Spread the word and bring more golfers.

The 2013 - 6th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held on August 16, 2013, at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Maryland.   Each year tops the year before!  I think we had the best weather (couldn't ask for better) we've ever had for our tournaments, and everything ran so smoothly from arrival to departure.  [ooppss - Hopefully I'm not jinxing the weather for next year - I did that before.]  We had to get a few extra golf carts this year to accommodate the amount of golfers.  That was great!!  Everyone had a good time.  There was an abundance a great food, friendship and support.  Thank you to all who attended, contributed, donated, volunteered and supported.   Your continued participation and support is benefitting many graduates, who we all should be very proud of; as I am sure Brian is very proud of us for what we are accomplishing.  See you all next year.

The 2012 - 5th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held on August 10, 2012, at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Maryland.   Well, I definitely jinxed the weather by describing last year how nice we had it.  Yes folks, we had downpours and had to delay the start time by about one hour.  Even then, there were still some drizzles/rain.  But what can I say -- we have the best supporters around -- almost everyone stayed for the event; just a few left.  Thank you extremely!!  Luckily, the rain subsided after one or two holes, and the day turned out great.  As in prior years, the event was successful and the golfers had a great day.   Thank you again so much to everyone who attended, contributed, donated, volunteered and supported.   You all are the best.  Until next year.

The 2011 - 4th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held on August 12, 2011, at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Maryland.  The event was another success.  Many golfers attended and had a great day.  And the weather, well you couldn't ask for anything better (not jinxing us any further on that).  Thank you so much to everyone who attended, contributed, donated, volunteered and supported.  You are the heart and soul of a wonderful giving and caring process.

The 2010 - 3rd Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held on August 13, 2010.  Weather was perfect.

Again, thank you to everyone for a wonderful day and wonderful event.  We appreciate and can't express enough how much everyone's support means to us and for the scholarship fund.

The Fund had another great year for giving.  We gave five scholarships to graduates of the Class of 2011, totaling $10,500.

The 2009 - 2nd Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held on August 14, 2009 at Furnace Bay Golf Course in Perryville, Maryland.

The day was another success. The golfers enjoyed a day of fun with friends; had great food; and won prizes and raffles. The weather had even cooperated again. All of the volunteers, family and friends enjoyed the day just as much.

We wish to thank each and everyone (golf course staff, golfers, sponsors, donators of prizes/food/drinks, volunteers and coordinators). I know I say this many times, but I truly mean it each time -- "we couldn't have done it without all of the support from everyone."

I am happy to report that due to the success of this golf tournament, we were able to give nine scholarships to graduates of the Class of 2010, totaling $11,000.

The 2008 Inaugural Memorial Golf Tournament was a HUGE success!

Thank you to all the golfers, sponsors, food/drink/prize donators, helpers, organizers, and the owners and employees of the Furnace Bay Golf Course. And the weather, well, we couldn't have asked for anything better. Many people came out for this good cause, and everyone had a great time.

We reached the maximum golfers before the deadline and had to decline additional entries. This was hard to do. If you missed the chance to golf this year, don't fret, we'll do it again next year. So keep visiting the website to watch for details. Meanwhile, we invite you to contribute directly to the memorial scholarship fund at any time; please see How to Donate.

The results of these fundraising events shows through the next generation. Our Scholarship Fund was able to give seven scholarships to graduates of the Class of 2009, totaling $12,500 . The success of this year's golf tournament and future events will hopefully allow us to give just as much in the coming year. Thank you.
