Brendan Neville is a Teaching and Research Fellow at the Institute for Complex Systems Simulation. Which is part of the Electronics and Computer Science Department at the University of Southampton. He received his Masters followed by his PhD. from Imperial College London. During his PhD. he worked on several European funded research projects including Alis (Legal reasoning, Game Theory, Computational Logic), Tiramisu (DRM) and Alfebiite (Agent Societies). His research interests include Simulation of Agent Societies, Self-organising social-networks, Trust and Reputation. His PhD. focused on the simulation of agent societies; the simulation platform Presage used in the thesis will soon be available as open source from http://sites.google.com/site/presageproject/.

Teaching

Most of my teaching this year has focused on the first year of the Complex Systems Simulation doctoral programme (see here). I also taught machine learning to the 2nd year undergraduates. Who very kindly nominated me for the Outstanding Lecturer prize at the Excellence in Teaching Awards 2014.
  • Introduction to Complexity Science
  • Complex Systems Simulation
  • Research Design and Multivariate Data (Statistics)
  • Complex Systems Research Project
  • Complex Systems Research Review
  • Intelligent Systems (Machine Learning)
Teaching for 2015 has been announced, I'm going to be teaching on the following modules:
  • Intelligent Systems (Machine Learning)
  • Foundations of Data Science
  • Data Visualisation
  • Foundations of AI
  • Advanced Intelligent Agents

PRESAGE Simulation Tool

PRESAGE is a simulation platform for rapid prototyping of Agent Societies. It enables designers to investigate the effect of agent design, network properties and the physical environment on individual agent behaviour and long-term collective global performance.
