We will be having an informational meeting for students interested in trying out for this year's Quick Recall team (parents are also welcome to attend) this Thursday, August 25th. The meeting will be in the Brandeis library and will begin at 4:00 p.m. and should last roughly an hour.
The rough meeting agenda is:
Every year leading up to the informational meeting, the number one question I'm asked is, "What grade do I have to be to participate?" This is a tricky question because while there is no grade level requirement, meaning that any Brandeis Elementary student may be on the team. On its face, this sounds great for younger students since the rules do not exclude them. However, most Quick Recall questions are from the fifth and fourth grade curricula, meaning it can be difficult for students in grades K-3 to compete for a spot on the team.
That said, I always encourage interested students to try out, regardless of age. Even if a child doesn't make the team this school year, the knowledge and experience gained from the try outs will be a boon in later years. Some of our best players are students that didn't quite make the cut the first time they tried, but came back and rocked when they were a little older.
I look forward to seeing everyone Thursday afternoon!
