What are the age requirements?

Anyone 22 or younger through March 31, 2012 is eligible to join. If you turn 23 on or after April 1st, you are eligible!

When and where are the audition/pre-season camps?
Saturday, December 3rd - 10am to 5pm
Saturday, December 10th - 10am to 5pm
Saturday, December 17th - 10am to 5pm

All camps will be held at Wharton High School (directions HERE).
It is HIGHLY recommended that you attend at least two of the camps above to be considered for a position in the ensemble. Please wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes (no sandals, please). Be sure to bring a 3-ring binder for music, practice pad, sticks/mallets, a small snack and water for the break, and audition fee of $40. Cash, check, and money order will be accepted (checks made out to "Brahma Percussion"). All instruments will be provided (bring your own drum and stand if you prefer)! Can I participate as a high school student?
Absolutely! However, if your high school offers a scholastic indoor ensemble, you may not be eligible to participate this season (unless you receive special permission from your director). High school students will be asked to obtain signatures from their parents, band directors, and/or school administration - if offered a spot - in order to participate. EVERYONE is encouraged to attend the audition camps and get hands-on experience from some of the finest percussion educators in the state - without any commitment to participate in the competitive season!

Where and when are rehearsals?

Rehearsals will take place on Friday evenings and Saturdays (all day) at Wharton High School. We will hold pre-season camps in December - and then two-day camps every weekend starting in January after the holiday break. Sub-sections will also be required to meet once a week at a time/day that will be determined once auditions are completed. Some Sunday rehearsals may be scheduled. This rehearsal schedule lasts through mid-April.

How much does it cost to participate?
Dues for this season have yet to be determined, but will cost around $1,000. There will be discounts for early payment, as well as easy fundraisers to help off-set the cost. A payment schedule will be set in December. Let your family know that dues payments make great holiday gifts! You will also be responsible for your own meals during camp and performance weekends, as well as the cost of shoes for performance (around $30). All debts with any other performing arts groups or organizations must be settled in order to participate.

Will I be able to work / teach / succeed in my classes?
YES! With rehearsals only taking up one and half days a week, everyone should be able to be successful with their work and studies. Please understand, though, that you will need to commit almost every Saturday starting in January to the ensemble, as well as most Friday evenings. Important school related activities and family emergencies are the only acceptable reasons to miss a rehearsal. Attendance at all performances is obviously required.
