As in last year's CYMD, the eighth annual Change Your Mind Day - Tampa Bay will use a topic format to encourage interaction. For each topic, each of 3 or 4 panelists will give a 5 to 10 minute presentation, and then we will have an open discussion. We will sit in an approximate circle (some cushions and chairs will be available), and will welcome comments/questions by anyone who would like to speak.
Change Your Mind Day has been established as an opportunity for Buddhists of various lineages to interact. By focusing on particular topics we can encourage this interaction to evolve. Buddhist teachings have much to offer. By working together, we might help the teachings of the Buddha to better alleviate suffering in our culture.
10:00-10:15 -- Opening ceremony.
10:15-11:45 -- Discussion 1
11:45-1:15 -- pot-luck vegetarian lunch.
1:15-2:45 -- Discussion 2
2:45-3:00 -- closing ceremony.
Two panel topics have been suggested:
Buddhism and the Afterlife
Other suggestions are most welcome -- please post online at the meetup, or email email@example.com.
The topics will be chosen by early March.
Once the topics have been chosen, a call will go out for volunteer panelists: people who have some experience with the topic, and who did not serve on a panel last year. An effort will be made to select panelists that represent a variety of Buddhist traditions.
We look forward to:
Volunteers to help with publicity.
Volunteers to help provide lunch-time entertainment (music, dance, poetry, etc, etc).
Volunteers to help staff the BPF literature table.
Volunteers to help with the event on March 26, including lunch and tea coordinators.
Groups and vendors to offer literature, information, art exhibits, items for sale, etc.
Updated literature from local groups -- please bring it on March 26 or contact Tom or Rick to arrange mailing or pickup.
