New NMR instrument installed

A 300 MHz Bruker NMR spectrometer and magnet was moved across campus and installed in our lab recently, thanks to many of our students for completing the move and installing it.  In particular, thanks to Nanette and Jane Strouse.  Our lab is now equipped two 300 Bruker systems and one 400 Varian system.  Two of these systems can do imaging.

A class of materials known as topological insulators could lead to the development of novel spintronic devices. But the presence of defects has hampered the development of high quality materials.  UCLA researchers Dimitrios Koumoulis and Prof. Louis Bouchard have developed new method to visualize topological insulators at the nanoscale:

Congratulations to Dr. Jonathan Brown who recently graduated.  Jon's thesis is titled: "Variation of Pore Metrics in Metal-Organic Frameworks for Enhanced Storage and Catalytic Applications".

PRL Editors' Suggestion

A recent paper first authored by PhD student Nanette Jarenwattananon was selected by the journal Physical Review Letters as PRL Editors’ Suggestion.  The paper, titled “Motional Averaging of Nuclear Resonance in a Field Gradient”, was published in the May 12, 2015 issue of Physical Review Letters (PRL).
