*** Problem Description ***
When you try to install Internet Explorer 7, the installation fails and you may
receive the following error message as shown in the picture above:


"Internet Explorer 7 could not be installed. You must restart your system to confirm
that any changes to your system are undone".


when you see the log files you may have access is denied in registry

*** Resolution ***                               

                                 1.Install by extracting the file manually


1) download the IE 7 from this link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx to c:\
2) rename the IE7setup file to IE7

Extract the IE7 setup files
3) open command prompt and change directory to c:\ type "IE7 -x " provide the path
to extract "c:\IE7" press ok

                                  2.Use the overiteoem switch to overite the oem  

1)download the IE 7 from this link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx to c:\

2) open command prompt and change directory to c:\
type "cd IE7" press enter
Type "cd update" press enter
Type "update /overwriteoem" press enter to install IE 7 

                                    3.Try Installing IE7 from a new user account

 1. Click 'start', then click 'control panel'. Click on 'user accounts'

2. You will find options for creating new user account. Go ahead and create, and make sure you give administrative privileges to this account.

3. Try to run the installation from this new user account. Its better to do the installation in safe mode with networking.

                                        4.Make sure of these settings


 1)Allow full control permission to system, administrators, and current user
account in the folder C:\Windows\system32


2) Reset Security Settings Back to the Defaults(applicable only for windows xp
professional)
                Click Start , click Run , type cmd , and then press ENTER type the following:


        "secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose" 

  Type the above without quotation marks and then Press ENTER



                                    5. Resolving the issue by using subinacl tool

 Install Subinacl.exe
i). Download and install subinacl from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en
ii). Create a file named reset.cmd in C:\Program Files\Windows Resource
Kits\Tools folder.

iii). Edit the reset.cmd file with the following content.
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f

  you can also download the reset.cmd file directly by clicking  here and directly move it to the specified folder
(Save the file)

iv). Enter into CMD prompt.

v). Enter the following commands one at a time and click Enter. to run the
reset.cmd

cd\
cd "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
reset.cmd

vi). Let the program do it's work.... after completing try to install the IE
7

internet explorer.
/ieak-full:<path>                 Reserved for Internet Explorer Administration Kit
use.
/ieak-branding:<path> Reserved for Internet Explorer Administration Kit use.


Restart Options:
/norestart                 Do not restart when installation is complete.
/forcerestart Restart after installation.

/log:<path> Create log file at the <path>.
