This list of events are our club events only. Events on the calendar may either be club organized events or public courses/events offered around Alberta. If you need to cancel any of the club events you have signed up for please email borealiscanoe@gmail.com

Please note, we normally turn off the sign up forms 24 hours before the event. However, in the case that we forget, we may not see your sign up or have enough gear for you. We haven't turned anyone away yet and we don't want you to be the first. Please sign up early!  Thanks for your understanding!


 May 15, 2018 - Local Paddling Presentation and Club AGM 

Doors open at 6:30pm

Meeting Time: 7:00pm- 8:30pm

Location: Syncrude Clubhouse at the Syncrude Athletic Park in Timberlea


Club Fundraiser!!! May 17, 2018 - Paddling Film Festival 

Location: Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts

Doors Open at 7:00 pm, Show Starts at 7:30 pm

The Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts will sell tickets online, at counter & phone during business hours; Monday-Friday 12:00-4:30pm and will open one hour prior to show time for ticket sales and ticket pick up.

May 22-  Morning Paddle from the Snye - 6am-8am

Meet at the canoe compound on Morimoto Drive - parking available at the skate park. Come prepared, we will go rain or shine. Mix 103.7 will be joining us for part or all of the paddle.

June 5 - Alberta Water Quality Awareness Day  

The Club will be collecting water samples from around the SNYE and Clearwater during our regular evening paddle. Check out this link for more details on the province wide initiative:

June 10 - Trail Cleaning at Whisky Jack Lake

This will be a fun day of trail clearing/cleaning! bring your little saw's and work gloves and help us clear the path to Whisky Jack Lake

July 2018 Dates: Wilderness First Aid Courses

Basic 20 hour course: July 5 evening, July 6-7 two full days
Advanced 40 hour course: July 5 evening, July 6, 7, 13, 14 full days

These courses are recognized by Alberta OHS for workplace first aid at a Standard First Aid level.  

Wilderness & Remote First Aid and CPR AED C Certification is either a 20-hour or 40-hour course, and is recognized by Alberta OHS as equivalent to a Standard First Aid certificate for workplace purposes. A large portion of the course is taught in an outdoor setting for more realistic experiences. Class requires 6 participants registered and paid by June 25 to proceed.

Aug 17-18 - Athabasca Overnight Trip 

Location: Athabasca River from the Snye in Fort McMurray to Fort MacKay (57 km)

Description: A beginner overnight river trip down from Fort McMurray to Fort MacKay. We will cover the distance in two days, wilderness camping for one night beside the water. 

The Borealis Canoe Club will be leading an overnight canoe trip down the Athabasca River from Fort McMurray to Fort MacKay. This will be a 2 day paddle with one night spent camping alongside the river.

Sept 1st to Sept 3rd, 2018 – Lakelands Canoe Trip - Weekend excursion to Lakelands with backcountry camping.  Members must have some basic camping skills and backcountry gear. Carpooling to Lakelands (3 hours drive) will be coordinated.

Please note sign up cut off is Aug 22nd for planning purposes.
