It would truly be a crime if you were to graduate from High School without ever being introduced to Shakespeare. At the very least you should be familiar with Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet. You should also consider Othello, Julius Caesar, Henry V, Richard III, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. It is possible to read Shakespeare's works online for free and links are provided here. You need only to click on the name of the play.
William Shakespeare lived from 1564 to 1616 and though there has been controversy over whether or not every one of the works attributed to him were actually written by the bard, that discussion for the most part is over.
Romeo and Juliet (1968) Directed by Franco Zeffrelli; Starring Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey; Excellent!
Otello (THE OPERA of Othello) Also Directed by Franco Zeffrelli and filmed as a movie rather than on a stage; Starred Placido Domingo. If you don't like this one, you won't like any opera.
Hamlet (1996) Directed by Branagh is long, but unlike other versions of this play follows the words of the bard quite closely.
Much Ado About Nothing (1993) Directed by Branagh; Starred Emma Thompson (Beatrice), Denzel Washington, and Michael Keaton.
The Taming of the Shrew (1967) Starred Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
