Summer Hours
We would love to see you over the summer! The office and media center will be open from 9:30-11:30 every Monday beginning June 4th!

Thursday, August 16th will be our Back to School Open House, then the first day of school is Monday, August 20th!

Timpanogos Hospital Teddy Bear Clinic
The annual Teddy Bear Clinic at the hospital will be held on Tuesday, June 26th. It is a fun opportunity for children to come and learn what happens at the hospital in a non-threatening way. Children bring a stuffed animal and go from station to station treating their animal. It’s completely free, but pre-registration is required to reduce wait times. Call 801-714-6100 to register.

Reflections 2018
The Reflections program is an opportunity for students to explore the arts! The 2018-19 theme is “Heroes Around Me”. Students are invited to create an original piece of art that represents the theme. They may enter in more than one category, up to one entry for each of the six categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, & Visual Arts. Entries are normally due early in the school year, so why not take long, lazy summer days to work on it! Remember, we cannot submit entries that include copyright violations. Please don’t use someone else’s superhero in your work.

Introducing the 2018-19 PTA Board
Our 2018-19 PTA President is Stephanie Orullian. She has 6 children (2 attending Bonneville, 2 at Orem Jr., 1 at Timpanogos HS, and 1 still at home), and her favorite activities include attending plays or staying up late and laughing with her kids over silly things. She attended JR Smith Elementary, where her favorite subject was Poetry.

Christine Chai, our incoming Leadership VP, grew up in Orem. She has 4 children, two of which will be attending at Bonneville next year. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, cooking, and shopping.

Kellie Bull, the incoming Legislative VP, has 3 kids, the oldest of which will be attending Bonneville next year. She was homeschooled and loves history. She enjoys gardening and spending time with her family. One of her favorite quotes is “Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved”, Thomas S. Monson.

The incoming Teacher Rep, Lindsey Clark, grew up in American Fork. She has been married for four years to her husband, Ethan. Favorite pastimes include going to Disneyland, spending time with family and friends, editing home movies/vlogs, and teaching the best Kindergarteners in the world!!
Nancy Crapo, next year’s Secretary, has five children. Three of her kids are attending Bonneville, one is still at home, and one will be attending Orem Jr. She enjoys reading and hiking. A favorite quote: “Just keep swimming.” (Dory, Finding Nemo)

Laurel Keller is serving as our Membership VP. She has 5 children - 2 in junior high, 2 at Bonneville, and 1 still at home. She has a Communications degree from BYU and enjoys camping with her family. A favorite quote: “If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”
(Dalai Lama)

Christina Hullinger is our PTA Treasurer. She has 2 children attending Bonneville next year and 1 at Orem Jr. She enjoys pretty much anything creative - especially planning events and parties. Christina attended at least 6 different elementary schools and loves reading.

Painless Fundraising
The PTA is making great effort to earn money in "painless" ways. This means that we are finding ways to earn money for our school without putting financial burden on our families.
  • Box Tops for Education: Simply clip the box tops from the products you already buy and send them with your student throughout the year.
  • Amazon Smile: Amazon will donate money to the PTA each time you make a purchase. All you need to do is go to the Amazon Smile website and select PTA Utah Congress Bonneville Elementary PTA. Or, go to the Bonneville school website, select the PTA tab, and click on the link to Amazon. Just remember to bookmark the site and always start your shopping at Amazon Smile.
  • Macey’s SchoolCents Program: Macey’s will donate 1% of all purchases made on your Macey’s perks account to the school. This is free money and there is no cost to you. From a desktop computer all you need to do is login to you Macey’s perks account, select the Nonprofits tab and then select Bonneville Elem.-Orem. Or, from your phone, Log in to your perks account, click the account tab, then the nonprofits tab, and select Bonneville Elem-Orem. http://maceys.com/perks.
  • Smith’s Rewards: Smith’s will also donate a percentage of the total number of purchases made to Bonneville. This is also free money and you still receive fuel points and coupons. Go to https://www.smithsfoodanddrug.com/topic/community-rewards-3. Follow the directions to enroll. Select Bonneville Elementary PTA (80664).
  • Thompson Orthodontics “We Pay for A’s”: Take a digital picture or scan of your child’s report card & email the picture to ThompsonReportCards@gmail.com with “Bonneville Elementary” in the subject line. Thompson Orthodontics will send the Bonneville PTA $1 for each A (or 3/4) on your student’s report card. They will not add you to any email lists or use the report cards to solicit your business.
Year-End Report
Thank you so much for your continued support of our Painless Fundraising program. Because of your support, the PTA can continue sponsoring programs at the school such as Reflections, Teacher Appreciation Week, Student Council, the Home Reading program, the Storytelling Festival, and more.
The PTA board is putting together a year-end report for those who would like to see details of what programs are supported and how money is spent. It will be available after the final checks are written. You can see the report by visiting the PTA website (visit Bonneville.alpineschools.org - click “PTA” in the top right - select “Year-End Reports” from the menu under the picture of the school).

Outstanding Educator

Each year, the PTA honors teachers as part of their Outstanding Educator program. This year, the Bonneville PTA has nominated Mrs. Nitta! Mrs. Kaylie Nitta has been teaching at Bonneville Elementary school for 5 years. She has touched many students by helping with the School play, the Dance festival, and Battle of the Books. She has served as her grade's team lead and has had many student teachers and interns placed under her. She gets down on her students’ level and in a calming voice is able to get the kids to talk. We are sad that she is not returning next year but so happy and grateful for the impact she has made on so many of the children's lives.

Bronco Day “May the 4th Be With You!”

Our annual Bronco Day Carnival will be held Friday, May 4th, 5-7 PM. Lots of exciting activities for the whole family: teacher dunk tank, water balloon launchers, silent auction (including Disneyland tickets), free carnival games, Jedi Training, and amazing entertainment including The UVU Green Man Group! Shorter lines! This year, we are accepting credit cards in addition to cash and check. Star Wars dress highly suggested. May the 4th be with you!

Celebration of the Arts

Come celebrate the arts with a PTA-Sponsored event on Monday, May 7th. Artwork from all students will be featured in Miss Amber’s Student Art Show Open House from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Media Center (free admission). “Bonneville Orphanage, The Musical”, an original screenplay presented by the PTA Drama Club (a volunteer after-school program), has two showings at 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm ($1 Admission - babes in arms are free). Please enter all events through the main front doors. Nice dress encouraged.

Reflections!

The theme for the 2018-19 Reflections contest is “Heroes Around Me”. Entries are due early in the school year, so why not take long, lazy summer days to work on it! Teacher Nominations
Each year, the PTA sponsors a luncheon for a selected teacher that exhibits “Excellence!” Here are a few of the comments we received when asking for parent nominations:
“__ has been the best and most understanding teacher. Even pregnant, she has been able to get my daughter to finally communicate her feelings.”
“__ has a true gift with the kids and with problem resolution. She is amazing.”
“We have LOVED having __ this year! She is great at communicating with parents, patient with the kids, makes learning fun and still has order. She also has no homework which we love, love, love.”
“__ is an amazing teacher. I love that he interacts with the students at recess, before or after school... He tries to be involved in their after school sports when possible. He is fun yet expects respect and obedience.”
“__ is an amazing teacher with the ability to help her students learn and also inspires them to be the best they can be. She sees the potential each child has & helps them to see it in themselves.”
We don’t have room to include all of the nominations, but we want to thank our teachers. They are all amazing people!

Reflections Winners!
Congratulations to Cody Bilbao, Morgan Keller, and Abbie Bilbao. Their work has advanced to the State level in the annual Reflections program!

Family Activities
We didn't have much snow in January, but we hope your family had the chance to spend some time doing a winter activity anyway!
In February, we encourage each family to read a chapter book together. Even small children can receive the benefits of using their imagination to picture the story they are hearing. So no matter the age of your children, gather them all together and read a chapter a night. Some great books are on the Battle of the Books lists: Wonder by R.J. Palacio, Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. Good luck, and happy reading!

Go sledding, build a snowman, have a snowball fight, watch a winter movie, enjoy hot chocolate, read a winter book together... even if we don't have much snow in January, there are several options to enjoy winter as a family. And don't forget to enter your name in the house for the February drawing.

Family Activities
Great job exercising with your family in October! In November, we invite you to cook together. The more children are exposed to food and cooking, the more likely they are to build an appreciation for food and health. Cooking together is also a great way to connect. You could have a “make your own pizza” night, bake cookies for a neighbor, let your kids come up with a menu and help them make the meal… there are endless possibilities! Don’t forget to submit your name in the “House” in the office for the prizes!

Come Read With Me
Those who have already attended Come Read With Me will have noticed that changes have been made this year. Rather than meeting in the students’ classroom, we are gathering all the classes together in the cafeteria for a literacy activity and reading time. This month, families of 2nd grade students are invited to come. See details above.

Earn Money For our School!
Did you know that if you shop through AmazonSmiles, they will donate a percentage of your purchase price to the charity of your choice? You can support our school by selecting “PTA Utah Congress Bonneville Elementary PTA” at smile.Amazon.com. This would be a great way to earn money for our school while doing your holiday shopping!

Family Restaurant Night
Thank you for your participation in the Family Night at Swig. Together we earned $174.82. Our next Family Restaurant Night will be at Culvers on November 7th. It’s always fun to go to Culvers because they invite the students to help out with the serving.

Drama Club Supplies
Our Drama Club is performing “12 Wacky Days of Christmas” in December. They are looking for clean Ice Cream buckets and cylinder containers (like oatmeal or hot cocoa containers). If you have any of these empty containers that you would be willing to donate, please drop them off in the box by the office.

Substitutes Needed
Alpine School District is in need of substitute teachers. If you are interested, visit the district web site, click “community” at the top, then “Employment” from the drop-down menu. “Substitute teaching” is right in the middle of the page. (Here is a direct link.)
