Outstanding Educator

Each year, the PTA honors teachers as part of their Outstanding Educator program. This year, we have chosen two teachers.

Ryan Radebaugh (better known as Mr. Rad), currently teaches 6th grade and has served as the student council rep for many years. He sets up all of the sound systems for school programs, makes the great videos we see during the Christmas concert, helps organize the running route for the annual Fun Run, and more. This year he pioneered the Spelling Bee and it was a great success. Mr. Rad is a teacher who makes learning fun and interesting. His upbeat attitude, fun jokes, storytelling, and personal experiences add to each lesson and make for a great rapport with his students.

Roberta Jacobsmeyer, or Miss J. as she is more commonly known, has been a teacher at Bonneville for 20 years. She is currently teaching Kindergarten, but has taught every grade from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Miss J has a wonderful way of loving all of the students she comes in contact with. Many times she will be seen eating lunch with her students because they are sad, attending birthday parties, and going to church with them. Miss J has been a great advocate for the PTA, helping with translating, finding volunteers, and promoting PTA sponsored programs. She is currently running a fundraiser to help raise money for children with Leukemia. For many years she ran the school chorus. She is a much-loved teacher and countless times you will see previous students stopping by to say high and give her hugs. Recently the students were asked to write down their favorite thing about Miss J and the numerous students wrote about her hugs and that she loves them.

Family Week is May 1st through 5th

Watch for your children to bring home activities to do as a family to help strengthen and support each other. And be sure to mark on your calendar that Wednesday, May 3rd is Family Lunch day, when aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. are invited to come and eat lunch with their students! A flyer is coming home explaining all the details, but be sure to let your family members know so they can plan to attend.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for your support of our PTA’s “Painless Fundraising” program this year —the family restaurant nights, the AmazonSmile donations, Box Top collections, and more. With your help, we were able to carry out our programs without any candy bar selling or other fundraisers that put financial strain on our families. We appreciate you!

If you are interested in volunteering at Bonneville next year—as a room parent, with an event, switching books, translating flyers, or any number of other possibilities, please email BonnevilleParents@gmail.com and let us know how you would like to be involved.

Bonneville’s Unsung Heroes

Mrs. Dorothy Schubert is not a classroom teacher, but makes the school a better place by helping wherever she’s needed. She makes most of the photocopies, watches the lunchroom, fills in for the secretaries, and watches the kids that need extra attention in the LRR. Thank you Mrs. Schubert!

Mr. Borwegen, or Travis, as known by the kids and staff, is the school's head custodian. He gets to do all the “fun” stuff like setting up chairs and tables for events, cleaning up a variety of messes, locking the building up after evening functions, and unplugging the toilets. He always does it with a smile. He knows the kids and helps to keep our school clean and safe. Thank you Travis!

Family Restaurant Night at Chick-Fil-A

The December Family Restaurant night is coming up on Tuesday, December 13th. This month we are going to Chick-Fil-A. Thank you so much for your support in November. With your help, and the hard work of the student council, we earned $784 from Culver’s!

Online Calendar

Did you know that you can add the school's events automatically to your Google Calendar?  Open and log into your Google Calendar online. Go to the School's Calendar page on the school web site. At the bottom right of the calendar, find and click the "Google Calendar" icon. When it asks if you would like to add the "Bonneville Public" calendar, select YES! You may need to sync the calendars on your electronic device before it appears there. Our computer teacher, Pam Hyer, keeps that calendar up to date and you’ll always be aware of school events!

 Painless Fundraising

Did you know that when you support your PTA, you are supporting many of the extra programs sponsored at our school? We are making great effort this year to earn money in "painless" ways by partnering with companies like Maceys and Amazon. This means that we are finding ways to earn money for our school without putting financial burdens on our families. Check out the links on the PTA web site to see ways you can support the programs at Bonneville at no extra cost to our great families!

Student Council

Attention 6th Graders! Any 6th grade student that would like to be a part of the Student Council should submit their applications to their teachers by Tuesday, September 6th.

Reflections

Do you like to dance, produce a film, write a poem or story, compose a song, take a picture or create an original piece of artwork? The PTA Reflections program is an opportunity for students to explore the arts. This year's Reflections theme is "What is Your Story?" Tell us your story! Children are invited to reflect on the theme and create an original artwork … or dance, or photograph, etc. that represents the theme. Visit the web site to print entry forms and get creative! Submit your entry by October 11th. They may be turned in to Mrs. Cook in the library.

New Email

The PTA has a new email address. If you would like updates on events and volunteer opportunities, email us at BonnevilleParents @gmail.com.

Room Parent Grants

This year, the PTA has decided to award Room Parent Grants to help offset the cost of planning and running class parties. We hope this makes it possible for more volunteers to serve as room parents. The amount of money available is limited, and the Room Parent Coordinator will explain in more detail at the Room Parent Social. Our Room Parent Coordinator, Lezlie Helm, can be contacted at lez4helm@gmail.comThanks for your service!

Running Club

Every Wednesday, students are invited to participate in the Running Club to have run and even earn prizes.  Our first run will take place during lunch recess on Wednesday, September 7th. We will run each Wednesday until winter finds us.

Thanks so much for all your help with Teacher Appreciation Week!
We have had a lot of requests for recipes, so here you go!
You can see pictures of the decorated classroom doors by visiting our facebook page!

POPCORN

Zebra Popcorn
Made by Lezlie Helm

Recipe comes from Like Mother Like Daughter blog.

Peanut Butter Popcorn
Made by Christal Lunt

The recipe was from Food.com, but Christal added a step. She baked it at 250 degrees for an hour, stirring every 10 minutes.

S'mores Popcorn
Made by Alisha Matthews

1/2 cup popcorn popped
1 bag chocolate chips
2 cups graham crackers crumbled
2 cups mini marshmallows

Lay popped popcorn on cookie sheet melt 1/2 bag of chocolate chips with a small spoon full of shortening to help thin it.
Drizzle over popcorn and sprinkle with graham crackers and marshmallows.
Melt the other half of the chocolate chips with shortening and drizzle over again.

Cookies and Cream Popcorn
Made by Tasha Merrill

Recipe comes from Our Best Bites. Tasha used regular Oreos rather than peanut butter Oreos.

M&M Popcorn
Made by Nancy Crapo

Nancy found the recipe here at Six Sisters Stuff, though she said she left the nuts out and doubled the amount of popcorn.

Funfetti Marshmallow Popcorn
Made by Jody McCleery

The recipe comes from Just a Taste web site, though Jody makes it with only about half the sprinkles the original recipe calls for. Also, she said that her children prefer the sprinkles on top rather than mixed in.

Kool-Aid Popcorn
Made by Jenny Yancy

Pop your Popcorn first; 6 quarts per batch (24 cups). If you buy a pound of un-cooked popcorn it will do about 3 batches.

2 cups sugar
2/3 cup margarine (2 pounds of margarine does 5 batches)
1 cup corn syrup

Bring to boil; stir constantly;  when it is at a rolling boil time for 3 minutes or soft ball on thermometer. VERY IMPORTANT not to over cook. A rolling boil is when you stir it and it is still really boiling.

Remove from heat; add quickly:

1/2 tsp baking soda
2 packets (same flavor) Kool-Aid
food coloring to make brighter (optional) I do this for red or yellow or green but its not necessary.

Stir quickly mixing and covering all the popcorn then spread out on counter immediately. (Use parchment) I also quickly put my pot in hot soapy water to make cleanup easier.

Caramel Popcorn
Made by Jamie Blaisdell

We'll post as soon as we get it!

Cinnamon Bun Popcorn
Made by Jordan Czech

12 cups air popped popcorn
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup real butter
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup white chocolate chips or almond bark

Pre heat oven to 250 degrees.

Place popcorn and pecans in an extra large bowl. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon in a very large microwave safe bowl. Mix them together and make sure they are mixed well. Chop butter into chunks and place on top of sugar mixture. Pour corn syrup over the butter. Microwave on high for 30 seconds to soften the butter, then mix. Return to microwave and heat for 2 minutes. Remove and stir, then microwave for 2 more minutes. Remove from the microwave and add baking soda and vanilla. Stir well, then pour over popcorn and pecans. Stir until popcorn is coated then transfer to a foil lined cookie sheet. Place in oven and bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Dump out onto wax paper and allow to cool. While cooking, melt white chocolate in a double boiler and drizzle over the caramel corn. Once the chocolate has hardened, break into pieces and enjoy.

SALADS

Pulled Pork
Made by Christal Lunt

Christal cooked the pork in a slow cooker until it was shreddable with root beer (not diet) and sweet onions. She says that the longer it cooked the better it tasted.
