Beat the Yeti Road Race

Most importantly, due to the large number of participants who have registered to participate, we anticipate very limited parking for this event.  We have arranged for a shuttle bus to transport runners from Horace W. Porter School in Columbia. Please make every effort to park there and take the shuttle in.  Parking at Recreation Park will be very limited and we don't want any cars parked on the side of the road where the race is taking place.  The address for Horace W. Porter School is:

3 Schoolhouse Rd, Columbia, CT 06237

For you early birds who like to warm-up and have enough time to prep, we will do our best to get the bus there for 8:30.  If for some reason you MUST park at Recreation Park, please make every effort to carpool with as many runners as possible.

Safety Information:  To ensure your safety we will have EMT, fire & rescue, and police at the race.  Please be mindful of the fact that the town will not close the roads and though we will warn drivers with signage, it is extremely important that all runners stay to the sides of the road at all times.

Rest Rooms:  Be prepared to walk through snow/mud to access the bathrooms.  We are confident that Yeti chasers like yourselves will not be deterred by these rugged conditions.  They will be open, but they are maintained by the town of Columbia.  Porter School, where the shuttle will leave from, will not be open.

Course Update:  After running the course this Saturday, I need to let you know that while much of the course is flat and fast, there is a sizable hill at roughly the 1 mile mark.  I used my GPS watch and the course we plan to use measures 3.12 miles.  Just over a 5k.  This is subject to change depending on weather conditions.

Payment Info: If you have not yet paid to participate, please bring $20 cash or a $20 check made payable to Bolton High School on the day of the race.

Fun Stuff: The Yeti has agreed to make an appearance.  Even if you can't beat him (he's a pretty fast Yeti), there are hand made prizes for the first and second place finishers in each category.  With our registration numbers, there proves to be a good deal of competition at the event!

Results: Results will be posted to

The Beat the Yeti 5k Course is an all road, out-and-back course.  Please be aware that conditions will likely be imperfect due to winter weather conditions.  The course will start in front of Columbia’s Recreation Park and proceed down Hennequin Road toward the lake.  Runners will then turn left at the stop sign onto Lake Road then left onto Homestead Lane.  Next runners will run into the cul de sac and turn around and return to the park by the same route.  Look out for the snow monster as you run the course and beat him if you can!
