Southern-Style BBQ Sauce

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup tomato ketchup

1/4 cup molasses

1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon ground dry mustard

1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Combine all of the ingredients in a 2-quart sauce pan, and mix well. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to maintain a simmer, and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Cool to room temperature to allow to thicken before using.

Makes about 1 1/2 cups sauce, enough for 6-8 cups shredded meat.
