2015 Maker Camp Themes

6 weeks of hands-on projects & cool field trips!

  • WEEK 1:

    first week

    Fantasy, July 6–10

    Make: believe with the magic behind the movies, ending with a Maker Camp Film Fest.

  • WEEK 2:

    second week

    Funkytown, July 13–17

    Make some instruments, then make some noise in the Maker Camp Battle of the Bands.

  • WEEK 3:

    third week

    Farmstead, July 20–24

    Hack the Hoedown with sustainable energy, food, architecture, and craft that bridge across centuries.

  • WEEK 4:

    fourth week

    Fun & Games, July 27–31

    Roll out the fun with games you make yourself, then challenge your friends with a Maker Camp Carnival.

  • WEEK 5:

    fiveth week

    Flight, August 3–7

    Take off in this make-off of all things that zip and zoom above our heads, culminating in the Maker Camp Air Show.

  • WEEK 6:

    sixth week

    Far-Out Future, August 10–14

    Step into the future with personal fab projects using new materials, and strut your shiny stuff in a Far-Out Fashion Show.

Maker Camp is a free 6-week virtual summer camp from Google for anyone interested in DIY, making, creating, crafting, hacking, tinkering, and discovery. 

Maker Camp 2014 starts July 7th. ( http://makercamp.com/). We use this virtual community to post projects and activities, as well as upcoming Hangouts to visit cool places and meet interesting makers. 

Boerne Young Makers will be hosting 2014 Summer Maker Camps each Friday at the Boerne Public Library.  Each camp will start with a Virtual Field Trip and finish with a making activity.

Friday, July 18th: Makers in Motion: Virtual Field Trip to Google Street View Treks &  make paper circuits! 

Friday, July 25th: Fun & Games: Virtual Field Trip to Cartoon Network Studios &  make a mini foosball game. 

Friday, August 1st: Science and Technology: Virtual Field Trip to Fantastmic at Disneyland &  make squishy circuits. 

Wednesday, August  13th: Virtual Field Trip to the White House! Then we will make mini irrigation feeders!

What: Discover Lunar & Meteorite Samples from NASA; Operate a ground-based Micro-Observatory; Explore the Cosmos using NASA's Eyes on the Solar System in 3D; Create a Mars feature map; Play our Mind over Mars Game; Make a Cooling Unit and Robotic Hand(claw); Design and Build a Mars Rover Racer and Balloon Probe too! 


We Made Stuff Faster! 

When: Saturday, Februay 15, 2014 starting at 10:00 a.m.

Where: Patrick Heath Public Library, Boerne, Texas

What: NOVA collaborated with Patrick Heath Public Library & Boerne Young Makers to “Make Stuff”  faster through a series of projects that include hands-on activities and design challenges based on one of the four themes from the MAKING STUFF Television program airing on PBS. 

 In one challenge, students built various shapes with gumdrops and toothpicks and then test their shapes for structural integrity.

 In another challenge, students built a simple car out of a block of wood and test their car for speed and then make modifications to make it go faster!

Cardboard Challenge and Star Wars Reads II!
We are celebrating a day of play, creativity and literacy!  We supply the cardboard and Star Wars related Challenges though any supplies brought to the event would be appreciated!

Saturday, December 13th @ 10:00 a.m. => Holiday Hour of Code! We'll be making interactive Holiday Cards using SCRATCH Programming and SCRATCH Jr on the Ipads for the little makers. Everyone is invited! No previous computer programming experience required!

    Saturday, Sept. 13th @ 10:00 a.m. => Lego Stop Motion Animation! We'll be making movies with legos and ipads! Drop in and join us!

    Saturday, Oct. 18th @ 10:00 a.m. => Cardboard  Challenge! We'll be making all things out of cardboard and duct tape! Inspired by Caine, the 9 year old who made an entire arcade out of cardboard! http://imagination.is/our-projects/cardboard-challenge/

Boerne Young Makers had fun making their own games and playing others. Makers made LED Throwies w/ Bullseye Boards, Indoor Hopscotch w/ duct tape, Stop It w/Arduino Uno and games using arts/crafts. We played Minecraft and Pokemon and Musical Chairs too
