A little drive on the famous Brooklands track
A little drive on the famous Brooklands track
The firm I work for had an exhibition stand at an event staged at Mercedes-Benz World at Weybridge in Surrey. I was one of the delegates manning the stand. Anyway, I turned up on the day and was directed by the Hi-Viz to the overflow car park. To my joyful amazement this turned out to be a section of the famous Brooklands banked track. I drove maybe 100 yards along it to a place where I could park. Later in the day on leaving the event I found my car was less hemmed-in that it had been in the morning, so here is my pale blue Volvo V70 on a section of the Brooklands concrete banking, certainly the only time I have ever driven on a race track, and to cap it all probably the greatest one of all (in the UK at least). Amazing to think that, had I parked my car there in the 1920s, it would have been hit by any number of racing machines made by some of the greatest names in motor manufacturing and driven by some of the greatest legends in motor racing. I tell you I felt very humble. I don't think any of the other delegates noticed anything.
