Whopper Brownies with Malted Vanilla Frosting

Makes 24 brownies

1 3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup Ovaltine
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 11.5 oz bag semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
3 eggs
3/4 cup light brown sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/4 cup Whoppers, roughly chopped
Malted Vanilla Frosting (recipe follows)

Preheat oven to 350 F.  Butter a 9 x 13 pan and set aside.

Sift flour, Ovaltine, baking powder and salt together and set aside.

In a large microwave safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and butter.  Heat the mixture in the microwave in 20 second intervals, removing and stirring vigorously between each session, until chocolate is just melted.  Mix in eggs, vanilla and brown sugar until fully combined.  Slowly add in dry ingredients and mix until just incorporated.  Stir in 1 cup of Whoppers, reserving 1/4 cup for later.

Pour batter into pan and bake 25-28 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.  Cool brownies in pan on wire rack.  Allow to cool completely before frosting.

Malted Vanilla Frosting

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, room temperature
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
1/2 cup malted milk powder
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt

In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat butter and sugar together on a low speed until sugar is fully incorporated.  Turn mixer to medium high and continue beating until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.

Scrape down the sides of the bowl and add remaining ingredients with the mixer on low.  Once incorporated, increase speed to medium high and continue beating for an additional 3 minutes, until frosting is very light. 

Frost cooled brownies and top with remaining 1/4 cup of crushed Whoppers.
