Shortbread Brownies

1 cup flour
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, cold, diced
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 1/3 cups sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a 9 x 9 baking pan with parchment or foil.  In a food processor, combine 1 cup flour, brown sugar and 1/2 cup butter.  Pulse until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Pour dough into a bowl and mix in 1/4 cup chocolate chips. Press dough into pan and bake for 8 minutes.

While the shortbread is baking, combine sugar, 3/4 cup flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt in a large bowl and stir to combine.  Add eggs, melted butter, and vanilla and mix until blended.  Add in 1/2 cup chocolate chips and pour mixture over shortbread.

Bake brownies for 35-40 minutes.  Cool in baking pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, use foil or parchment to life the brownies out of the pan.  Cut and enjoy!
