What is the Sunshine & Sisterhood Camp?
The adventure we have all been waiting for is finally here yet again. We rented out a WHOLE campground, for a WHOLE weekend. So what does that mean? Complete and utter privacy. So what does that mean? That means swimming and canoeing in the lake, relaxing in the sunshine and finally getting even tans, feeling the wind in our hair as we hike or as we bounce up to catch a volleyball, bonding over halal s'mores at the campfire under the sparkling stars, and sleeping in cute wooden cabins. This is an open camp meaning you are free to do as you please, or join in one of our communal activities, if you so wish to. Are you up for this adventure full of sunshine and sisterhood?
Who is it for?
This is an adult women's camp, meaning it is for women over the age of 21, only. There are so many things for kids and teens, but this, this is for us.
When is it?
The camp will be Labor Day weekend. That's beginning on Friday at 6 pm and ending on Monday at 11 am. Our campsite is conveniently located within an hour and a half of the Twin Cities.
Where will we meet?
For more information and directions, please refer to our Camp Location page. If there is enough interest, we can set up a carpool, isA.
What is going to take place there?
Our schedule is completely up to the attendees. They can spend their time at the campsite as they please, or join in with our group activities, when so wish. We will have optional group sessions and activities including swimming, canoeing lessons, a gaga pit tournament, soccer games, low ropes course, spiritual sessions, hiking, stargazing, and stretch and flow yoga sessions. A detailed itinerary of group sessions will be sent to you upon registration.
What do I need to bring?
For a list of items to pack for yourself, please refer to our What to Bring page.
How do I reserve my spots?
Space at this camp is extremely limited, and as such, we recommend you register and pay as soon as possible to ensure your spot. You can do this by visiting our Registration page.
Why can't I use my phone?
This purpose of this camp is self care and total relaxation. Since most sisters will not have their hijabs on, we want them to be able to relax and not worry about others taking their picture, or accidentally having them in the background of their snapchat, tiktok, or whatnot. Digital detox is super important and spending a weekend unconnected will help you connect with the other campers and the beautiful surroundings.
Can I bring my baby with me?
At our first camp we allowed moms to bring babies and offered babysitting as well, but then there wasn't any interest. Many moms came to the camp alone and agreed that they were so happy that there weren't any children there because they were able to take a true break and completely relax. It was because of this that we decided to not allow children this year. Also, we specifically made the Little Explorers camp for moms and children, so that moms with small children still can enjoy a camping experience.
How much does it cost?
The all inclusive cost for the Sunshine and Sisterhood Camp includes the full weekend lodging at the campsite, zabiha halal meals, registration fees, legal fees, games, and all activities is $475.
A detailed breakdown of the accommodations can be found at our package page.
What about the brothers?
We are considering planning a separate coinciding retreat for the brothers in the future. If this is something you are interested in please do let us know!
