Heart Conditions

In a report done  by the Kennel Club and The British Small Animal Veterinary Association a few years ago, Heart Conditions were listed as the 5th  biggest killer of Bloodhounds, sadly the survey is probably not the most comprehensive as only 46 forms were returned out of 180 sent out, however from the forms returned it indicates that there is a considerable occurrence in the breed, with heart failure, heart attack and unspecified cardiomyopathy observed. 82 deaths were recorded in the survey and 4 of those were due to heart conditions which is indicative of 5% of the  deaths recorded. With this in mind it would seem that the sensible course of action would be to perform heart testing as many other breeds already do.
