Welcome to "Blogging From East To West"

Hello Teachers,

Would you like to increase your student’s writing skills, while connecting them to a global audience? We have an opportunity for your K-5 students to participate in the "Blogging from East to West Student Challenge.” Does this sound interesting? If so, keep reading…

Beginning as early as November 2nd, students can join kids across the country using Kidblog or Blogger to complete a 6-week blogging challenge. This is open to ALL Elementary grade levels (K-5).

Initial Commitment:

  • Co- teach a blogging lesson with your local contact for this project to introduce your students to blogging.

  • Publish a student blog post once per week (Ex: writing assignment, reflection, journal entry, current writing projects, or posts related to a book to write about with your partnered school)

  • Comment on a peer blog posting once per week.

  • Google Hangout with a teacher/blogging partner to meet and greet at the beginning and end of the challenge.

After about 2 weeks of weekly blogging and commenting we will use the Quad Blog Format:

Each week one blog/class is the focus blog with the other bloggers visiting and commenting during that week. The next week, another school/class blog is the focus with the other classes visiting and commenting. This is repeated until each of the classes/schools has had their week in the spotlight. The cycle is then repeated. They will be motivated to write good blog posts, to increase their comments.

Are you ready for this exciting opportunity?
