Sarah & John Weir

Sarah Elizabeth married John Weir December 29, 1892.  According to the Census of 1891, John Weir was a lodger with George & Isabella Blight at Oakville, Manitoba.
Then, similar to George, John returned to Ontario to wed and they began their married life farming less than 2 miles from the home of George & Isabella.  They had eight children:

Abbie Ethel (Ethel) (1893 - 1906)  Ethel died at the age of 13 of a ruptured appendix
Orma Mary (1897 - 1899) died in infancy
James Dixon (Dick) (1898 - 1985)
John English (1900 - 1900) died in infancy (John's mother's maiden name was English)
Jean Margaret (1903 - 1991)
Sarah (Sadie) Louise (1905 - 1994)
David Bailey (1907 - 1907) died in infancy
William Cecil (1911 - 1981)

All children, except for the youngest - William Cecil, were born in Oakville.  William was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.  After the death of Ethel in 1906, they left the farm and ran a brickyard in Portage la Prairie.  Then John held several jobs for the government.  He ran a boys' reform school, was an inspector of orphan homes, inspected seed grain and finally became an Indian agent for the Department of Indian Affairs.  In that capacity, he moved his family to Leask, Saskatchewan in 1919 and he worked with the Snake Plain Reserve until his retirement in 1934 at which time he and Sarah moved to Vancouver.  Also in 1934, Sarah and John came east to attend the Weir Family Reunion and he spoke about his experiences.  John died of old age at 96 and there is speculation that Sarah died from cancer.
