Kidney donor, Diana Martin ran in Baltimore, MD at the Baltimore Running Festival on Saturday, October 11, 2008. She ran a Half Marathon, crossing the very path where her kidney donation took place.  Diana trained through hills and valley, rain and heat, with her dog by her side to reach her goal.

What is her continuing goal?  To raise awareness of organ donation and to help her friend with the life-long costs of anti-rejection medications.  Only 4+ months after her surgery, she ran the half marathon to get the word out that there are others awaiting live donations.  Diana says, "It's simply like being a blood donor - if you know there's a need, you just do it!" .

Sponsors are needed for her Marathon.  She has a goal of $100 per mile for 13 miles.  But, we know Diana always exceeds expectations!  To sponsor Diana, please click here to send her an email.  All sponsorships will be tax deductible through NTAF for Janet's medical expenses.  Let's provide that same encouragement that these two individuals do best!

UPDATE:  Diana has reached her goal of $100 per mile!

Building Hope!

Diana Martin gives her friend, Janet Marsceau (with family, photo right), a special gift--a gift of herself--her kidney.  Both are doing well now and returning to great quality of life!

Dear "Extended Family and Friends",

We have great news to share with you.  Recently, Janet received a kidney transplant at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.  She also had both diseased kidneys removed as a result of an inherited Polycystic Kidney Disease.  We are blessed for the progress she is making and for a dear friend, Diana Martin.  Diana is the living donor, providing the kidney that Diana says, "God knew was meant for Janet".

Many of you know that Janet has spent her life in an encouraging role as a wife, mother, friend and piano teacher.  She is very active in support of her husband's ministry as Pastor of Fellowship Bible Church.

As you may know transplantation is very expensive.  We are so blessed with the transplant success and the medical insurance coverage of much of the hospitalization expenses.  However, even with the medical insurance, there are uncovered expenses associated with the very costly anti-rejection medications that Janet will need for the rest of her life.

To help with these costs, a fundraising campagin in Janet's honor is being established with the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF) for her medical expenses that are not covered by insurance.  NTAF is a non-profit 501(3)(c) organization that has been assisting transplant patients for over 20 years.  If you wish to make a tax-deductible contribution, checks made out to the NTAF Mid-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund ("In Honor of Janet Parsons Marsceau" noted in the memo section) may be mailed to:

 National Transplant Assistance Fund

150 N.Radnor Chester Road, Suite F-120

Radnor, PA 19087

Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law. This campaign is administered by the  National Transplant Assistance Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing fundraising assistance to transplant and catastrophic injury patients.  Information:  800-642-8399.  West Virginia residents may obtain a summary of the registration and financial documents from the Secretary of State, State Capitol, Charleston, WV 25305.  Registration does not imply endorsement.

After becoming a donor, it is critical you speak with your loved ones so they know
of your wishes, as they will be asked your intentions in the event of your incapacity. Unfortunately, there are stories of intended donors whose wishes were not honored because their loved ones did not know of their decision to become an organ donor.

Having a donor card is also a way to reinforce your commitment. Go to the website and Click on the green ribbon to download a PDF of the NTAF organ donor card.
Print, review with your family and sign the card.  Carry in your wallet!
