Sasha Thackaberry
Introducing your "eLearning Sherpa"

Welcome!  I'm Sasha Thackaberry - an educator, first and foremost.  A facilitator of improving educational experiences as a means to "Save the World"!

I am the Director of eLearning Technologies in the Office of eLearning and Innovation (eLi) at Cuyahoga Community College. I’m responsible for two main focal areas – the eLearning technology infrastructure and propelling institutional innovation. I propose and advocate for new strategies, technology applications, and innovative learning projects, leading teams for specific pilots and implementations of new forms of technology integration from an effective learning design focus.

Prior to my current position, I was the Manager of Next Generation Learning, exploring new learning models like edugaming and MOOCs. Prior to that position I was the Senior Instructional Designer, where I worked with faculty to design online and hybrid courses that incorporated sound design principles and are student-centric. Before coming to Cuyahoga Community College, I worked at WVIZ/PBS ideastream in Cleveland, Ohio, as their Online Learning Coordinator. In that role, I managed the PBS TeacherLine program of online courses in Desire2Learn throughout Ohio in addition to designing and developing courses for professional development for K-12 teachers in Moodle. I worked in partnership with Ashland University, Cleveland State University, Notre Dame College, and The University of Akron to provide graduate-level education for in-service teachers to further professional skills and for licensure renewal.

As part of an outstanding collaborative team of faculty and administrators, we were awarded the 2013 Award for Excellence for MOOCs by the Open Courseware Consortium (now the Open Education Consortium.  I am the co-recipient of the 2010 Innovation of the Year award from the League for Innovation for a course template designed to provide faculty with instructionally sound courses in Blackboard pre-populated with standard college-wide and technology-based content. I have written articles for Distance Learning Magazine and eLearn Magazine, and an effective practice for a Faculty Instructional Design Toolkit in SLOAN-C’s repository of best practices. I also do consulting in instructional design in K-12, higher education, and corporate environments. With a background in education, development, and the arts, I approach problems by looking for creative solutions that work for both students and faculty, and I like to consider myself an advocate for the effectiveness of distance learning. I am currently working on my PhD in Educational Administration, Higher Education Kent State University.
