Chief Warrant Officer Dan Youngerman gives a tour of a Blackhawk helicopter
SAN ANTONIO – Chief Warrant Officer Dan Youngerman, a helicopter pilot with F Company, 7-158th Aviation based in Kingsville, Texas, offers a glimpse into the life of an Army Reservist to visitors at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Army Strong Zone here Jan. 6. After 12 years in the active Army, Youngerman wanted to pursue his goal of flying civilian aircraft while continuing to serve his country. The Army Reserve proved to be the perfect organization to fit his needs. “I wanted to maintain my ties with the military and the Army Reserve is great for that,” said Youngerman. “I can still be in the Army and still fly civilian equipment.” To those considering joining the Army Reserve Youngerman said “The training has been phenomenal and it has gotten me to where I am today. I think aviation is great but there are so many other opportunities in the Army Reserve.” (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. 1st Class Robert R. Ramon, 4th Expeditionary Sustainment Command)

Of course the Seahawk is fitted with completely different equipment than the Blackhawk, but it also differs on the outside. The Blackhawk has large sliding doors on both sides of the cabin. Instead the Seahawk has a smaller sliding door on one side of the cabin and a window on the other. The Seahawk also has weapons pylons as a standard fit, capable of carrying torpedoes, fuel tanks or, in this case, a telemetry pod. In order for it to be able to land on small helicopter decks on ships, the tail-wheel is placed much further forward than on the Blackhawk.
