My Thoughts on Sporterizing Military Surplus Rifles

HOME

There are a lot of sporterized military surplus rifles out there.  Sporterizing a mil-surp means modifying it for sporting purposes.  This includes drilling the receiver for a scope, replacing or cutting down the stock, cutting down the barrel, rechambering, cutting "useless" parts off, etc.  I don't believe in doing things like this.  I think that military surplus rifles should not be permantly modified in any way.  The only thing that I do to my rifles is clean them and maybe refinish the stocks if it's needed.  I believe that sporterizing destroys the history of these noble weapons and is an insult to the men whose lives depended on them.  Military surplus rifles should not be used as cheap sporting rifles.  Since these weapons aren't still in production, they obviously won't last forever.

Please, check out this webpage for more info.  I didn't write it but I agree with almost everything on there.
