We have created an Google Group email discussion group where members of the Interagency Group can share and discuss information related to the Fed Government and bicycle and active commuting.

Over time, bike parking facilities become cluttered with abandoned bikes. For one reason or another, abandoned bikes collect - with flat tires and dust - decreasing parking capacity.
And in time, parking facility owners do something to get rid of bikes. They might require that all bikes be registered. They might require that all bikes be removed for a weekend, and then any bike that is left over is abandoned - and gets cut free and donated.
Has anyone had experience with this at their agency? Does any agency have a good articulated policy for dealing with abandoned bikes?
We are getting new racks. We will have to deal with abandoned bikes in the short term to install the new racks; we should also consider how to deal with this in the long term. I would love to look at a model policy for someone who has thought this through.
