13 minutes
13 minutes
Thirteen minutes. That's all I had. We moved mom into assisted living yesterday. She is very confused about where she is, why she needs to move, why she can't stay home alone, why I think she's not able to take care of herself. She was determined not to stay yesterday. I ran through the safety issues, my concerns for her health -- blood pressure, stroke potential and forgetfulness -- and her doctor's wishes. To no avail. Then the nurse tried. Then the charge nurse. Then my younger sister came and tried. And still she refused to agree to stay. Eventually, we were able to give her her evening medication and part of that regimen is a sleep agent. She got tired and agreed to try to rest a little bit, change into some comfy clothes -- but no pj's -- and rest on her bed. My brother had come by then and we all sat w/ her and watched TV and then she fell asleep. She apparently had a good night and we were all relieved about that. Today was marginally better. She did breakfast with the others in the cafeteria by herself -- I got there when she was finishing up. She went off-site to ceramics with my brother -- a routine they've had since last fall. I picked her up and brought her back to the facility. And she didn't remember why we were there. Then there was an outing on the facility bus in the afternoon: a little 75-minute trip around the area. I took this while she was on the ride. After I finished putting up a couple more photos for her and setting out some more of her knick-knacks, I had 13 minutes to catch a catnap. Thirteen minutes. I remember most of them. 38/365

Sachamangua tree - Grias peruviana - It's nice when they come with labels! Sachamangua; This is a large single seeded fruit, which when you crush the fruit and squeeze the juice into the nose, it warms the area locally (it can sting a bit), and it is effective for curing sinusitis. It also helps the eyesight and restores visual acuity by relieving the pressure from the sinuses. You eliminate a lot of mucus and this gives relief. The fruit when ripe is normally eaten peeled or roasted, and is a little like the aguaje fruit, but for medicinal uses it must be green. It is also good for tired feet in an poultice. Taken orally it is useful for the liver when struggling with the digestion of fat, it is also a treatment for gases. Fungal spores in the nose can cause itching, rhinitis or allergy and Sachamangua is effective for this too. Athlete’s foot can also be treated with the dry powder, like talcum powder, prepared from this fruit.
