"I'm proud of this house we built..." -Ronnie Dunn HOME
Big George Ventures is dedicated to providing high-quality, eco-friendly, and energy-efficient homes, all bundled in an affordable package. In this pursuit we have often been led to new materials, systems, and technologies that we feel are under-tested and unproven. Many of these technologies claim to be substantially better than their predecessors and are very intriguing. However, before we start incorporating them at Georgetown Village, we want to see how they perform in the real world. To this end we have started construction on a concept house that will include many of these materials.
We will attempt to certify this home LEED Silver.
The home will not be a traditional wood-framed house. Instead, we will be using insulated concrete forms (ICF). ICF Blocks provide great insulation, but more importantly they provide a large thermal mass for the home. This thermal mass helps keep the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
We will have solar hot water heating that is integrated with a Phoenix high-efficiency water heater. Our HVAC system will use this hot water to heat the home. This system, NightBreeze, was designed by Davis Energy Group and offers many advantages over a traditional gas furnace and air conditioning unit. Among them is the ability to automatically shut off the air conditioner and use outside air for cooling when conditions are appropriate.
We will be testing a variety of different interior finishes. Here is an overview of some of the materials.
Toilets: Caroma dual flush.
Cooking: GE Profile induction stovetop.
