Parliament Street, Nottingham
A postcard view down Parliament Street in Nottingham. The hoardings with adverts are around the site of the Elite Building which stands between King Street and Queen Street. In the late 1920's/early 1930's the Corporation of Nottingham extended Parliament Street through the Hockley area of the City towards Boots Island. This was to alleviate traffic congestion. The extension of Parliament Street meant that it was necessary to split the road into Upper Parliament Street and Lower Parliament Street. (This part of the Parliament Street is now known as Upper Parliament Street.) The statue of Samuel Morely was moved to The Arboretum in the 1920's. Unfortunately whilst it was in transit it fell off the cart and was smashed. The head of the statue was turned into a bust ~ which can still be seen in The Arboretum to this day. This postcard is franked Nottingham 9.30am 16 Mar (19)15. It was sent to Mrs Murray c/o Mrs Dye, Lynn Road, Downham Market, Norfolk. The message simply reads 'Paid 2/7 keep it to yourself'Cider Shed - right
The B&Q 38mm laminated worktops have been sealed with multiple coats of polyurethane varnish along all cut edges. Joints are sealed with silicon sealant. The framework is simple planed 44 x 44 (2" x 2") softwood. For speed and simplicity I used galvanised brackets and joining plates, followed up with S/steel screws. Floor is screeded and painted, over liquid and polyethylene membranes.
