Prelude “Prayer” (Steven Scott)

Welcome Rev. Bill Bertsche

Call to Worship Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra, directed by Elsa Wiese

“Come, All Christians, Be Committed”

Come, all Christians, be committed to the service of the Lord.

Make your lives for Him more fitted, tune your hearts with one accord.

Come into His courts with gladness, each his sacred vows renew.

Turn away from sin and sadness, be transformed with life anew.

Of your time and talents give ye, they are gifts from God above

To be used by Christians freely to proclaim His wondrous love.

Come again to serve the Savior, tithes and offerings with you bring.

In your work with Him find favor, and with joy His praises sing.

God's command to love each other is required of every man.

Showing mercy to a brother mirrors His redemptive plan.

In compassion He has given of His love that is divine.

On the cross, sins were forgiven, joy and peace are fully thine.

Come in praise and adoration, all who on Christ's name believe.

Worship Him with consecration, grace and love will you receive.

For His grace, give Him the glory – for the Spirit and the Word,

And repeat the gospel story till all men His name have heard!

(Music arr. Timothy Brubacher)

Service of Baptism Rev. Steve Mason and Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

Invocation Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

“Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation” Hymnal 403 (stanzas 1–2)

“The Church's One Foundation” Hymnal 401

Scripture Reading 1 Peter 2:1–9 (ESV) Bob Steger

So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.

Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up

into salvation – if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of

God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be

a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

For it stands in Scripture:

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious,

and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,

“The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” and

“A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.”

They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,

a people for his own possession,

that you may proclaim the excellencies of him

who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Praise Him, above – ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Pastor to People

Tomorrow we begin Founder's Week, Moody Bible Institute's annual winter Bible Conference. We are thankful that, beginning on Monday night, all morning and evening sessions will be held here in our own sanctuary. You can find a schedule of the conference to the left of this column or on the Institute's website. Take advantage of this ministry and attend as often as possible.

My own schedule for the coming month is rather busy as it includes a few speaking engagements, preparing for the March trip to Israel, and the ongoing challenge of writing a book titled Jesus vs. Mohammed. I want to thank all those who pray for Rebecca and me as we continue to serve the Lord here at The Moody Church. Incredibly, this January I will have been the senior pastor for 31 years, a credit to the Lord alone!

Blessings,

Pastor Lutzer

Active substances:

An active substance in snowdrop is called galantamine, which, as anticholinesterase, could have acted as an antidote to Circe's poisons.[8] Galantamine (or galanthamine) can be helpful in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, though it is not a cure; the substance also occurs naturally in daffodils and other narcissi.
