Front & back of old sash from Caravan, the kids' scouting program that we did at church on Wednesday nights (elementary grades). I don't remember what most of those badges are for. The people are church founders and leaders (one of the dudes is Phineas F. Bresee, I totally remember that name still). The 'scout' 'sentry' etc. are different ranks. The gold stars are for key memory verses, I believe [edit: after research: the stars are for articles of faith - important principles of the Nazarene Church]. There was no specified layout for the badges. Basically every Wednesday we would go to this program and get a point for each of the following: 1. wearing the uniform (white shirt & dark blue pants - jeans were sometimes okay - plus the sash and scarf [which I didn't have because I didn't come to that church until 2nd grade, and the scarf was given out in Chippewa, the lower grades' program]) 2. bringing our 'dues' (a quarter) 3. attendance 4. something else... I think participation, or maybe reciting a Bible verse by memory (from the week before)? Could have been 'bringing a friend' too? I think that must have been it... because it was rare to earn all 4 points for a night, and the others were relatively easy. And then we would study different things, do activities, and earn these badges. I remember making cookies for one, and doing some gymnastics. Basically this program kept kids occupied while parents were at choir practice or Wednesday night church.
Day 101: Memory Verses
Day 101: Memory Verses
We made keychain memory verse cards at the beginning of the month in Collide. The idea is to get the kids to have the easiest possible time memorizing the verses for the month. I figured, if I expect them to memorize these six verses (Philippians 2:3-8), then I ought to lead by example. I haven't done true Bible memory work since Grade 6. I'm through verse six at the moment and it's been a huge blessing. I'm already planning my next memory work. Filling my heart with the good stuff, fo' sho.
