July 13-14, 2007 - BHS PTSA Officers attended GA PTA Leadership Training Conference in Atlanta, GA. All expenses were paid by the individual officers. The 2007-2008 budget will include a line item to cover the conference cost for the newly elected officers who take office in May 2008.
June 2, 2007 - Supported all students taking the SAT at Butler HS by providing bubble gum and mints.
May 22, 2007 - All BHS PTSA Officers attended the RCCPTA Annual Awards and Election event at Hains Elementary.
May 17, 2007 - Last General PTSA Meeting for the 2006-2007 school year. Presented awards to student and adult members for their participation in the revival of BHS PTSA - Oct-May 2007. Review the BHS PTSA Agenda for May and review ideas for the summer.
May 10, 2007 - Richmond County Board of Education sent their response in writing to a few of the 15 questions BHS PTSA submitted after the Meet and Greet in January 2007. Response from RCBOE
May 9, 2007 - Distributed Certificates of Appreciation to the Teachers of Butler High School in support of National Teacher Appreciation Week. Presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Nurse Jones in support of National School Nurse Day.
May 5, 2007 - Provided assistance in setting up Savannah Rapids Pavillion for Prom.
May 4, 2007 - Supported Senior Day in the BHS Stadium. Assisted in serving food and cleaning up.
April 28, 2007 - BHS PTSA awarded 3rd place in the High School Division for Community Outreach from Georgia PTA. BHS PTSA listed in GA PTA's Best Ideas handbook for 2006-2007 for the Meet and Greet event with School Board Members.
April 23, 2007 - BHS PTSA President and Treasurer attend the 8th District Spring Conference at Meadowbrook Elementary.

April 20, 2007 - Hosted the Talent Showcase for the students at Butler High School. Great turnout from our students and supporters. Awarded 1st place prize ($100) to the USMC JROTC Drill Team, 2nd place prize ($50) to Tiffany Miller and Arecia White, and 3rd place prize ($30) to Kenneth Wilson. All participants received a Certificate of Appreciation for their participation/contribution to the Talent Showcase. Thanks to everyone who made this event so successful.
April 11, 2007 - Gained our first BHS PTSA Membership through the Google Checkout.
April 10, 2007 - Started accepting dues and donations online using Google Checkout.
March 30, 2007 - Awarded Georgia PTA President's Centennial Membership Award. The BHS PTSA Secretary and Treasurer will attend the GA PTA Convention from the award given to BHS PTSA. Two convention passes and one overnight stay at Callaway Gardens is the award given to the PTSA. Thanks to our 90 PTSA Members which put BHS PTSA in 2nd place throughout Georgia for all local units improving their membership during the 06-07 School Year.
March 22, 2007 - RCCPTA Meeting.
March 15, 2007 - PTSA Meeting - Guest Speaker, Ginger Marshall from MCG provided an informational briefing on HPV. General Membership approved the budget. We now have 90 members.
March 10, 2007 - Supported all students taking the SAT at Butler HS by providing bubble gum, mints, and lollipops.
March 8, 2007 - Fear This 4 Life Town Hall Meeting on Teen Driving. Thanks to Mrs. Polite's mentors for filming the PSAs (Public Service Announcements) and spreading the word to our teen drivers.
February - March - Provided support, information, and documentation about the PTSA and improving parent involvement for BHS staff and faculty who are continuing their education.
February 19 -23 2007 PTA Advocacy Week. We sent our fifteen questions that went unanswered by our school board representatives to our State representatives and the State School Superintendent. Everyone is encouraged to contact their representatives and advocate for their child(ren) and the public education system. Board Member Questions
February 22, 2007 - Augusta Chronicle publishes an article about Randy Gaschler's visit to Augusta in the Richmond County Neighbors section. Book urges Parent Power
February 22, 2007 - Executive Committee meeting.
February 15, 2007 - Hosted Mr. Randy Gaschler, author of Parent Driven Schools, as our Guest Speaker. This event was held at Glenn Hills Middle School and was scheduled in support of PTA Bring Your Family to School Week.
February 10, 2007 - Attended a Report Writing session hosted by RCCPTA at Butler High School.
January 27, 2007 - Provided gum, hot cocoa, and coffee for students coming to BHS to take the SAT and Saturday School.
January 18, 2007 - BHS PTSA hosts a "Meet and Greet" event with Richmond County School Board Members. Mrs. Hughes' drama students opened with a short skit and parents, students, teachers, and community partners attended this event to meet the RCBOE Members that were present. January 10, 2007 - BHS PTSA President speaks at the luncheon held by the South Augusta Rotary Club.
December 19, 2006 - Holiday school break until January 3, 2006.
December 14, 2006 - Spoke with the faculty at BHS and provided 3 teachers with Wish List items. A few teachers acknowledged our efforts in improving involvement. Attended RCBOE meeting and delivered individual letters to board members inviting them to the first BHS PTSA "Meet and Greet" event at Butler High School. This event is scheduled for January 18, 2007. We close out this calendar year with 67 members.
December 11, 2006 - BHS PTSA President accepts invitation to speak at the South Augusta Rotary Club meeting in January 2007.
December 9, 2006 - Continued the Butler Beautification Program. Cleaned front windows and picked up trash in the parking lot.
December 5, 2006 - Gained 2 more members.
December 2, 2006 - Provided gum, hot cocoa, and coffee for students coming to BHS to take the SAT and Saturday School. Built 130 Thank You packs for all BHS employees. Delivered Thank You packs to employees that were present and remaining packs to employee boxes.
November 21, 2006 - Randy Gaschler, author of Parent Driven Schools, accepts an invitation made by the BHS PTSA Treasurer to visit Augusta for a speaking engagement to be held on February 15, 2007. Randy speaks to parents about "Why a parent is more powerful to a child's education than a room full of PhDs" and "How motivated parents can make a change in our public schools".
November 20, 2006 - Gained 4 additional members.
November 18, 2006 - Started the Butler Beautification program. Cleaned windows in the area leading to the cafeteria. Picked up trash around the school.
November 16, 2006 - Second official PTSA meeting. Conducted official business, gave away 3 door prizes, and gained 4 more members.
November 12-18 - National Education Week.
October 27, 2006 - Started using PTA's OMDR to manage members' information and dues reporting.
October 25, 2006 - Contacted Fear This 4 Life about hosting a parent information event.
October 23, 2006 - GA PTA acknowledges Butler HS PTSA in a status of "good standing".
October 21, 2006 - Donated 10 canned goods in support of "Spooky to be Hungry" food drive.
October 19, 2006 - First official meeting of the BHS PTSA. RCCPTA President and 2nd VP attend the meeting to formally conduct election of officers and induct the officers. Three door prizes were given away and BHS PTSA has its first membership of 48 members.
October 17, 2006 - Attended RC Board of Education Booster Club Policies meeting.
October 7, 2006 - Attended "Stop the Violence, Spread the Peace" Rally at BHS gymnasium.
October 6, 2006 - Delivered Teachers' Wish List forms to the teachers' drop boxes.
September 30, 2006 Attended District 8 Training/Meeting at Copeland Elementary School.
September 27, 2006 - Received copies of last audit conducted on the BHS PTSA books in 2004. Discovered that the first PTSA was established in 1963 and is a 501 (c)(3) but currently inactive.
September 21, 2006 - Attended the RCCPTA and met with the cluster leader for Butler High School. Obtained approved BHS PTSA bylaws and leader book.
September 14, 2006 - First informal meeting attended by six parents, three teachers, and the principal. Conflicting events with volleyball, softball, JV football, and College night. Drew four names from collected forms to give away 4 PTSA memberships.
September 12, 2006 - Collected forms by interested parents during BHS Open House night. Four PTSA Memberships will be awarded from the collected forms at the first meeting.
September 10, 2006 - BHS PTSA Newsgroup is formed. An alternative method of posting information and allowing recipients to read from the web or receive updates through email.
September 1, 2006 - Set up a table at the football game and collected interest forms to determine the parent and community support for reviving the PTSA. Four PTSA Memberships will be awarded from the collected forms.
September 1, 2006 - Attended a meeting with BHS Principal about starting the PTSA and available opportunities.
August 22, 2006 - "Part of the Solution" blog is created to provide information to parents about important events. Part of the Solution
August 17, 2006 - Received status from Georgia PTA as to the history of PTA/PTSA at Butler High School.
August 2006 - Exchanged email with two other interested parents about reviving the PTA/PTSA.
