若比丘尼。已適他婦受學戒不滿學。與受具足者波夜提。 If a bhikṣuṇī confers the upasaṁpadā ordination on a woman who had been married before, though she (the woman) has not completed her preliminary training in the disciplinary precepts, her act constitutes a pācattika offense. Should any bhikkhuni give full ordination to a married woman who has received the training in the precepts but has not completed her training, [this entails a] pacittiya.
佛住舍衛城。爾時迦梨比丘尼度王臣須提那婦。出家與受學戒。本在家有娠。轉轉腹大。諸比丘尼嫌言。已受學戒而有娠體應驅出。答言。我出家已來不知是法。 The Buddha was staying at Śrāvastī. At that time, the bhikṣuṇī Kālī initiated the consort of a royal minister, Sudinnā, into the Order and made her a Buddhist mendicant. But when she instructed her in the disciplinary precepts (Śikṣamāṇā), she found that (the consort) had already become pregnant in her secular life. The other bhikṣuṇīs scolded her, saying : “When you instructed the woman in the disciplinary precepts, she was already pregnant. She ought to be expelled (from the Order).” (The girl) answered, “Since I joined the Order, I have not commited [sic] this rule.”
諸比丘尼語大愛道。大愛道以是因緣往白世尊。 The other bhikṣuṇīs reported this to Mahāprajāpatī Gautamī, who thereupon went to inform the Blessed One of this matter.
佛言。此出家已來不知是法。此在家時事。若有如是比者。未應與受具足待娩身已。若生女者出草蓐已與受具足。若生男者待兒能離乳。然後與受具足。若親里姊妹言。取是小兒來我自養活。如是者應與受具足。佛告大愛道瞿曇彌。依止舍衛城比丘尼皆悉令集乃至已聞者當重聞。 The Buddha said, “Since she joined the Order, she did not commit this rule. This is a secular matter. (We will make a special exception for her, but) if the same thing ever occurs again, you ought not to confer the upasaṁpadā ordination on the girl involved. If she delivers a girl, you are to confer the upasaṁpadā ordination on her as soon she leaves the child-bed. If she delivers a boy, you are to confer the upasaṁpadā ordination on her after it has been weaned from its mother’s breast. If her sisters or relatives kin say, “We shall take this child and bring it up ourselves,” you may immediately confer the upasaṁpadā ordination on her. The Buddha instructed Mahāprajāpatī Gautamī to assemble all the bhikṣuṇīs living and begging in Śrāvastī. “..., even those who have already heard this should listen again:
若比丘尼已適他婦受學戒。不滿學與受具足者波夜提。 'If a bhikṣuṇī confers the upasaṁpadā ordination on a woman who had been married before, though she (the woman) has not completed her preliminary training in the disciplinary precepts, her act constitutes a pācattika offense.”
如上童女學戒不滿中廣說。 This is fully explained in the Chapter on maidens who have not completed the disciplinary rules.
