26th Annual Tree of Light @ City Hall, December 14, 2017

On Thursday, December 14th BFO-Toronto is holding our 26th Annual Trees of Light Ceremony at Toronto City Hall. The ceremony is a way to remember and honour our loved ones during the Holiday Season. Once again this year, the event will be supported by the Mount Pleasant Group.

The lighting of the Trees represents the love that still lives on in our hearts and memories – sometimes long after the death of our loved one(s). The Trees are kept on display for the entire month of December to January 8, 2018in the Toronto City Hall Rotunda for all to visit.

For many of us the Trees of Light is an important touchstone and as such attendance continues to grow, so it is always good to arrive a little early to ensure seating. As seating is limited please note that we may request that you give up your seat for our guests who are elderly and/or have issues with standing. There will be a short dedication and lighting ceremony that acknowledges the memories of our loved ones. The lighting ceremony, including a musical performance by the Shout Sisters Choir will be approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by a time of quiet reflection. After the ceremony you are invited to stay and look for your loved one’s name(s) on the Trees. Light refreshments will be served and dove-related merchandise, including doves, will be available for sale following the ceremony as well.

A dove name tag along with a tax receipt will be mailed out to you within two weeks of processing your order. We endeavour to ensure that we have all the names are correct, but mistakes do happen or we are not always able to decipher handwriting. If you find that we have made a mistake, please contact us ASAP so that we can ensure that name tags on the trees are accurate. We will also send you a rectified tag. Please note that placing a name on the tree is a memorial for our loved ones but it is an opportunity to “pay it forward”, as all proceeds from the name tags help us to continue to offer our grief support groups and programs free-of charge.

We understand that it is not always possible for everyone to purchase a name tag. If you are a BFO-Toronto volunteer or program participant and are unable to purchase the tag, but would like to have your loved remembered, please contact Aruna at 416-440-0290 or email her at aogale@bfotoronto.ca to make arrangements.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at the Trees of Light Ceremony and even if you are unable to attend the ceremony, you may still purchase a name tag.
