A couple dancing at the Saturday night dance.
Friends of Old-Time Music and Dance
(formerly Birmingham Country Dance Society)

The Friends of Birmingham Old-Time Music and Dance holds dances on the second Saturday of every month -- and some 4th Sunday afternoons -- at the YWCA in downtown Birmingham. We invite everyone -- young and not-so-young, experienced and new -- to come join us for hours of live music, dancing, fun, and friends. We have low admissions fees, with discounts for members, students, and children.

Saturday night dances begin with warm-ups and teaching at 7:00 p.m.  We suggest you bring your own water bottle.

For more information, explore this website, or call (205) 822-0505.

How Do We Dance?

Never been to one of our dances? Don't be intimidated! We have a beginners session before each Saturday night dance, so come on down and we'll show you what to do. But if you want to get an introduction to what contra dancing is like, visit the How We Dance page

More about upcoming dances:

Check out our calendar of events to find the dates and locations of all our upcoming dances.

Most of our dances are held at the YWCA in downtown Birmingham. It's a large, friendly space with plenty of secure, well-lit parking.

Missing Mentone already? Or did you miss out and now regret it? Have no fear! The next Mentone dance weekend is already scheduled for August 19-21st, 2016 -- and it will be just as full of frivolity and fun as Mentone 2015! We will post more information in Spring 2016, so keep your eyes open and your registration hand ready!
