Beyond the Light is an attempt to answer the question: "Can a roguelike be scary?" The concept is pretty simple. You wake up in the middle of the night and must escape the haunted house you find yourself in. In the future I'd like to expand it to become a sort of horror movie simulator with a large variety of monsters and locations that mean you'll never know what you're up against. For now, since this was written for the 7 Day Roguelike 2012 Challenge, it's just a simple one level house with a small set selection of monsters.
- Gameplay de-emphasizes combat in favor of stealth and escape.
- Uses sound to create a tense, foreboding atmosphere
- Light/Dark system: Use light to identify your foes and restore sanity, but you'll be exposed and vulnerable.
- Unstoppable ghosts, beasts, and killers stalk the halls eager to drive you insane or worse.
