Beyond “Religion” and “Science”?

A panel discussion at

The American Academy of Religion: San Diego, CA

Presiding: Michael Reiss, President of ISSR

In order to initiate what we hope will be a multi-year reflection focused on rethinking the current religion and science discourse, we will be conducting a 90 minute ISSR session with a round table discussion at the American Academy of Religion conference in San Diego, CA. Panelists have been asked to reflect on the strengths, limitations and biases of current approaches to understanding religion and science and the relationship between them, and to share ideas about how to develop different approaches. These short reflections have been posted here (see Papers), along with suggested readings that they find relevant to the conversation (see bibliography). While the session itself will focus on the panelist’s reflections, the larger conversation begins here and we invite all interested parties to read the papers, participate in the conversation before hand, and attend the session where we will skip the paper reading and, after a brief introduction by our panelists, get right into the questions and discussion.

To read the papers and join in on the discussion, please follow the links on the above, where you can also find links to a bibliography, biographies of participants, and the full panel abstract,

If you are interested in participating in the long term project, or have any questions please contact srcdseries@gmail.com.
