'Good Grief!' She Said

'Good grief!' exclaimed Lucy
as she berated Charlie Brown.

'Good grief' I repeat
Never knowing if it exists.

'Good grief' tinged with regret
Guilt and relief tango in my heart.

'Good grief' chewing at my mind
Until all coherent thought is devoured.

'Good grief' my hands thrown in the air
Begging answers to an unasked question.

'Good grief' tastes of sourness and acrid pain
When, if ever, will sweetness return?

'Good grief', I am crying again
Will the tears ever stop?

'Good grief?' is the question
The answer relentlessly evades.

'Good grief' Lucy said
not knowing what she meant.
