Better DashClock does NOT collect ANY info from you. All the requested permissions were required to serve you data in the extensions.
-1. Is this app free?
This app is free to download and test. However, its extension will be disabled after 24 hours of installations until you purchase the unlock key (or uninstall/reinstall it to reset the trial). If you are looking for a free version, please download the original DashClock widget app.
0. Something is not working, what do I do?
You can email support by going to the setting screen, press "..." on the top right and choose "Email Support" option to send an email to support.
1. Why does the app requires so many permissions?
Better DashClock has a set of built-in extensions. Those permissions are for these built-in extensions. For example, Internet and location access permission is for the weather extension, read contacts/SMS permission is for SMS extension.
2. The home screen widget mis-behaving when I resize it.
The home screen widget in Better DashClock uses some features that are only fully implemented in android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). If your device is pre-Jelly Bean , the home screen widget may (or may not) resize correctly in the default Home launcher. You can easily fix this by switching to a 3rd party launcher such as Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher.
3. I cannot add the widget to lock screen.
To add Better DashClock widget to your lock screen, you device must be running Android 4.2 or later. To use this widget as a lock screen widget on Android 4.4 KitKat, you need to enable a setting first https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRRbjlXQluc
4. Some extensions are not working with Better DashClock
With some extensions, Better DashClock and original DashClock may interfere with each other. You should remove the original DashClock if you use Better DashClock as its replacement.
Some extensions, such as DashNet , needs to update its extension description meta data in the AndroidManifest to allow other 3rd party apps to be able to read its data. If you added an extension to Better DashClock and its information is not showing up, you should contact the extension developer to ask him/her to add the "worldReadable" meta data to its extension as followed:
<meta-data android:name="worldReadable" android:value="true" />
(Please note the order of meta-data may matter, try adding worldReadable to be directly after protocolVersion. If you have published any DashClock extensions, contact me and I will send you the unlock key for free.)
You should also point the extension developer to this link: http://api.dashclock.googlecode.com/git/reference/com/google/android/apps/dashclock/api/DashClockExtension.html
5. Some extensions won't update or display?
Due to a change to how permissions work in Android 5.x , currently 3rd party extensions won't display if you don't have the original DashClock already installed at the time you install Better DashClock.
To workaround this issue, please follow these 2 steps:
Step #1: Install the Original DashClock OR Better DashClock Helper (smaller size)
Please note you in Android 5.x you can only install one of them.
Step #2: Uninstall/reinstall Better DashClock
